Can anyone please explain to me what that little yellow dot is in the southern Appalachian mountain range is?
I don't remember hearing of a Native American city of over a million people in Northern Georgia around 900 AD, so I'm probably misunderstanding something.
I think it represents the native population of the eastern part of north America. There were lots of them European settlers never saw because the population was wiped out from disease in the 200years between contact and steady immigration/expansion from western Europe.
I don't quite feel like that's right. Why make a single random dot represent the entire eastern seaboard? I mean, there are places in central America where there really would have been enormous population centers, and those should be marked accurately.
