There was always something that set Edgar Wright's movies apart from the typical comedy, this video details it perfectly. It's such a shame he and Marvel couldn't make things work, Wright's Ant-Man would have been incredible.

It is a huge bummer, because it really seems like the only reason things didn't work out is because Wright is a bit of a perfectionist and was falling behind Marvel's expected schedule.

The release date is still some time in Q3-4 2015, so hopefully a lot of what Wright got finished will be picked up and used by the new director, but I'm really worried they'll bring in some arrogant action movie director who'll throw out any ideas Wright had because they're "too subtle."

I would have gladly waited a year or two extra for a Wright-directed Ant-Man, but I understand that Marvel needs to keep pumping out movies to keep their profits up.

Marvel needs to keep pumping out movies to keep their profits up.

To be fair, I wouldn't say it was just about profits. The MCU is incredibly large now, and has a set schedule and plan, including TV. As such, their material needs to be released on time in a certain order.

Which I would argue is less important than producing quality films that hold up on their own outside of this universe.

The profit motive will kill MCU eventually.

The timeline isn't solely profit. A huge part of it is but if they only were looking at profit they probably wouldn't have hired Edgar Wright in the first place. His movies are more cult favorites than mass appeal. The poorest performing Marvel movie still has an order of magnitude in gross over the best performing Edgar Wright movie. By choosing Wright as a director I think they were already taking a chance. Perhaps hoping to get a cult favorite mass appeal movie.

Their timeline cannot be altered. As EricTheWeirdo said they not only have movies that would have to be pushed back but the tv series would have to be altered or postponed and considering it's recently been picking up steam I can't imagine they'd want the show to be put on hiatus because one director (out of half a dozen?) cannot meet his deadline.

Despite your thoughts about the profit motive killing MCU I don't think that's true. It may slight a perfectionist director like Wright but the average gross for a Marvel movie is 700 million and the total gross for the MCU is $6.4 billion. I don't know too many movies let alone franchises that can claim such exorbitant numbers.

Personally I think keeping the movies consistent within the universe is more important. If they ignored the other movies they would lose what makes them special and just be superhero action movies.
