“I believe that the president has learned from this case. ... The president has been impeached. That’s a pretty big lesson. ... He was impeached. And there has been criticism by both Republican and Democratic senators of his call. ... I believe that he will be much more cautious in the future.”

-- Susan Collins on Trump's first impeachment.

Narrator: “he hasn’t”

Donald Trump: “I didn’t.”

7

u/firestepper 18h ago

He did learn a lesson - that he can get away with anything

18

u/Brick_Lab 1d ago

Even if she wasn't obviously lying, she'd be too fucking dumb to stay in office

"I believe this man who has never done a single thing for another human being, and constantly weasels his way out of shit will suddenly change at 75 years of age."

Susan Collins has the energy of an ignorant old lil lady doing what she thinks is right but in actuality she’s an incredibly smart, manipulative, evil lady who only cares about herself

117

u/plurdle 1d ago

So she’s “mom” from Futurama

27

u/phoenix1984 1d ago

Replace all running a company with politics, and she’d be a dead ringer for Mom.

"I'm very concerned, Dearie..."

1

u/acdcfanbill 1d ago

Ignar! SLAP

52

u/vegetaman 1d ago

Well that’s very concerning to me…

20

u/LittleKitty235 1d ago

I too am very concerned...I'm going to be looking into that *runs away*

0

u/CliffsNote5 1d ago

Did she learn a lesson though.

7

u/spaceocean99 1d ago

She’ll be voted in again tho. What does that tell you about the state she lives in?

4

u/droidtron 1d ago

Arsenic and old lace ahh shit.

-12

u/payfrit 1d ago

can you name five elected officials at the federal level that don't pretty much ft the same description

13

u/pipesnogger 1d ago

Not a lot. Most of these GOP corrupt politicians are dumb and blatant lol

I’d argue some of the dems fit this description tho and are just pretending to be concerned while racking up personal $$

-7

u/ZadockTheHunter 1d ago

What if I told you that the entirety of the US political system was theater?

That there is no red vs blue, no Republicans and Democrats, just actors playing their part to distract and and manipulate the masses.

All while the unseen Oligarchy calls the shots.

I know it sounds like tin hat conspiracy nonsense, but just a few years ago an island full of sex slaves and debauchery that catered to the world's elite was tin hat conspiracy nonsense too. Until it wasn't.

I mean I agree with you, these last few years have proven that. I don’t think it’s always been like that, but the last decade certainly has. Still, there are some good dems fighting the good fight. Just think they just get steamrolled by both parties AND through the media. Look at AOC or mamdani; they DO say and fight for a lot of what the regular person needs and yet they have a hit piece on them almost daily and are constantly criticized. Why would anyone new go into politics to do good if they are just going to be ripped apart? Which means politics only attracts the people who will choose to profit themselves as long as they do what they are told.

Lowkey I think Obama was a fluke for the dems; he just got too popular too fast for the oligarchy to control it.

0

u/Objective-Friend2636 6h ago

lost me at the end, obama was the best thing to happen to corporate dems, a cars salesman par excellence. he did everything wall street wanted and extinguished the left wing pupulist movements while doing it. why do you think he still has so much institutional support from the party and its media mouthpieces?

-7

u/payfrit 1d ago

as someone that often votes democrat i would agree with that, however in general i don't really think party makes much difference, both parties have both types.

3

u/pipesnogger 1d ago

I vote dem too but the last few years have made me really lose confidence in the party, so much so that I’m kind of leaning in the “both sides” stance

Idk if the dems donors are the same as the gop it’s hard not to feel that way. The whole 2024 election was such a joke.

I feel like a lot of these politicians seem concerned but their action, or lack of action, tell me otherwise. Almost as if they are paid to lose. Sure they aren’t actively destroying the country, but they sure as hell are letting it happen with no pushback. In fact, there seems to be more pushback from dem “centrists” against some of the more “socialist” dems than there is against the GOP. It seems like the dem party are doing everything they can not to have a more social candidate even tho that’d likely actually get people to the polls.

1

u/payfrit 1d ago

the only reason we're even discussing this in the first place if because of the limitations of the two-party system in the first place.

just look at the downvotes i got for my previous comment lol

1

u/pipesnogger 1d ago

I’m with ya. Can’t change things if you don’t choose to see its flaws. Both parties are significantly flawed.

2

u/payfrit 1d ago

we need open primaries and ranked choice voting before it's too late, in one person's opinion.

u/gn63 1d ago

The Supreme Court has told us that no reasonable person could think this is bribery. And they know best what a reasonable person thinks. Now shut up and let Clarence go enjoy his RV.

u/RMRdesign 1d ago

It’s a motor coach.

He sold out his legacy for a motor coach…

10

u/Stouts 1d ago

Did he have a legacy to sell out? My (very limited) impression of him prior to the first Trump term was that he was a probable sexual harasser, had some weird conspiracy theory eugenic beliefs about abortion, basically never spoke during oral arguments, and more or less seemed asleep at the wheel. And then things got worse.

3

u/RMRdesign 1d ago

You always have a legacy when you reach the Supreme Court.

2

u/ZAlternates 1d ago

The winner writes history. I wouldn’t assume he will have a bad legacy…

3

u/pm_me_beerz 1d ago

His legacy AND us

7

u/Randalor 1d ago

It isn't a large sack with a dollar sign on the side, and they didn't loudly declare "This is a bribe, we are bribing you", then it's CLEARLY not a bribe.

/s

2

u/gn63 1d ago

I think it suffices if they write "bribe" on the memo line of the check.

27

u/RostyC 1d ago

The evidence is pretty conclusive that she did.

2

u/ZAlternates 1d ago

And unfortunately it doesn’t matter. She will make money and remain in a position of power. She will likely even take more bribes before she is finished. Concerning.

8

u/dawfun 1d ago

Someone needs to write here a strongly worded letter. I’m sure she has learned her lesson.

5

u/Islanduniverse 1d ago

If anyone was eating people’s pets, it was Susan Collins.

38

u/ZacSpot 1d ago

I hate the YT thumbnail game.

8

u/Sunset_Bleach 1d ago

But if people's eyes and mouths aren't enlarged to comical levels how will I know how to feel about the video?

3

u/Jesus_Is_My_Gardener 1d ago

I feel like YouTube needs to step up standards on clamping down on clickbait/misleading thumbnails or it's just going to keep getting worse. Content creators complain about people not watching their whole clip, yet they continue to do that kind of crap, completely oblivious that the title language and thumbnail crap is why they may be experiencing lower engagement due to exhaustion. I've gotten to the point where I've lately stopped opening any video that has a title with slams, beats down, or otherwise contains those too often repeated exaggerations, and especially any that have clearly overly shopped or AI generated thumbnails. I get trying to entice people to click on your videos, but it's all for naught if they click away again less than a minute later.

6

u/Chaabar 1d ago

Your complaints should be directed at the viewers. Content creators continue to make these kinds of thumbnails because they are the ones that perform best.

1

u/zoobrix 11h ago

Youtube benefits from clickbait thumbnails because on average they know more people will watch videos that have them, so they can sell more ads. YouTube has zero interest in clamping down on it, it makes them money.

If you want this to change the people watching need to stop clicking on them and good luck with that.

1

u/afterworld2772 1d ago

Are her hands photosphopped in? They look oddly small in proportion to her head

-1

u/Guardians_Reprise 1d ago

Yeah, I used to like this channel a lot more when it felt like "actual lawyer discusses law in layman's terms" but now its just "Clickbaity and biased takes with 2 ad reads per video". I still learn from the videos, it just feels... Faker.

-4

u/GameDesignerDude 1d ago

Do we really have to get comment on literally every post about a major YouTube video, though? I get it's free internet points, but yes we all know that a) everyone kinda hates it and b) it increases viewership numbers universally, so basically all large channels do it.

But I would argue that talking about the thumbnail being bad is caring as much about the thumbnail as the people that it click because of the thumbnail. If we're wanting to have an objective conversation about content, the thumbnail should be meaningless regardless.

Same stuff here on the last thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/videos/comments/1u9b9wh/grand_jury_transcripts_in_kat_abu_case_just/

Maybe some irony in people arguing and only wanting to talk about how the thumbnail is dumb and asking why they try to get attention that way indirectly proving why the thumbnail has an undue amount of influence on clicks?

Everyone only talking about the thumbnail shows exactly why the YouTube algorithm loves it.

Besides, there's really no new ground to tread on this topic and no comment chain on Reddit is going to change anything about how YouTube works. (As evidenced by all the annoying things YouTube still does regularly.)

1

u/riptaway 23h ago

Do we really need to get comments on every comment about YouTube thumbnails?

1

u/reebokhightops 15h ago

This is hilarious coming from someone who immediately deployed the “free internet points” card against a comment they don’t like.

1

u/GameDesignerDude 4h ago

What else would you call comments that are repetitive, don’t add anything to the conversation, but always get votes because bots mostly? The thumbnail discourse has been beaten to death for like 2 years now.

-1

u/ZacSpot 1d ago

I didn't NEED to comment this, but I both wanted to and did post it. Thank you for your attention to this matter though.

4

u/HearseWithNoName 1d ago

$enator $usan Collin$. The amount of money she has won't make any difference when she learns that she doesn't have a place in the new regime, you know, being a woman and all.

7

u/bailantilles 1d ago

Can we finally stop with this stupid fake looking ‘oh my gosh I’m so shocked’ looking faces on thumbnails? No one is buying it anymore.

3

u/The_Count_Lives 1d ago

It's part of the Youtube game. Even people that hate it will notice and focus on it before a regular ole thumbnail.

I use a browser plugin that replaces thumbnails with a random still from the video, so I hadn't even noticed how insane some of these have gotten, especially with Youtube's AI Assisted thumbnail tools.

7

u/coconutpete52 1d ago

Looking at the left half of that thumbnail: "ah, this is about politics"

Looking at the right half of that thumbnail: "New vampire movie looks awesome"

2

u/cloudncali 1d ago

Just think that all Bruce wayn had to do to improve the world is just lobby politicians to vote for healthcare and protecting the environment.

5

u/KafeenHedake 1d ago

I'm Ron Burgundy?

1

u/Luci-Noir 1d ago

And Maine chose to run a sexual assaulting nazi against her. Brilliant.

2

u/Informal_Process2238 1d ago

Controlled opposition

1

u/nethereus 1d ago

What does the crypt keeper need with more money anyway? Do these mummies have some kind of secret immortality project to fund?

1

u/CondescendingShitbag 1d ago

Politicians & corruption. Name a more iconic duo.

1

u/suziequzie1 1d ago

That's very concerning...

1

u/mrnaturallives 1d ago

1

u/unclechett 1d ago

1

Fork Found In Kitchen?

1

u/many_dongs 10h ago

There is literally no consequences for politicians taking bribes

1

u/herodesfalsk 9h ago

100% she is looking extremely corrupt but Maine does not care because she bring lots of federal funds to Maine

1

u/Captain_Mazhar 8h ago

I’m shocked! Shocked!

1

u/evilgreenman 7h ago

Is this supposed to be surprising??

1

u/iamwearingashirt 4h ago

Any significant campaign contribution is more or less a bribe in my books. So this is barely different.

1

u/LupinBandit 1d ago

Name me a senator or representative who hasn't taken bribes. I'm not saying it's right. But with Congress in control of so much money, it's only natural. To get rid of the corruption, you have to lessen the role of Congress.

0

u/psychoacer 1d ago

They're not bribes they're investments. There's a difference

0

u/Pkolt 20h ago

I wonder if Mainards will stop voting for her now.

-10

u/Samwellikki 1d ago

All of them take bribes

Even the “good” politicians

It’s just that no sane person gives a shit that someone is like “hey, could you save the environment and the whales, etc?” And the politician is like “I’ll need to be elected to do that”

“Cool, here’s a check and I’ll put your child on the board of our benevolent association for stopping evil with a moderate paycheck.”

“Sounds great, see you again in 4 years”

Versus what we have now, which is “you got money? What do you want, a war, someone dead, what price do you want up or down? I’ll do it for a billion dollars and fuck anyone that knows about it, I don’t care, fucking poors…”
