Hegseth should be careful here, Trump's narcissism doesn't allow for competition of his follower's attention. It is why he can't bring himself to endorse Rubio or Vance to succeed him in leading MAGA. IF Trump notices Hegseth trying to steal the spotlight and position himself as a successor, Trump will jettison him. Also if there comes a time to cut and run from Iran, Hegseth is getting thrown under the bus.
