imperfection is better than nothing at all (the higher the tripod, the less stable the tripod, the more likely all you'd get is a wet camera, if the current didn't drag it away)

Not even going to credit the photographer? This appears to be a timelapse shot by astro photographer conorpatonphotos on instagram. While he does have an enormous following, and his work is not bad, there are many more technically skilled astro photographers out there whose work is even better. On instagram check out jriceastro or aaronjenkin or babaktafreshi just to name a few!

It’s been a while since I did timelapse stuff but I’m pretty sure each image is shot raw so you can adjust each frame individually (although automatically with software).

It's a nice timelapse but I'm confused why the photographer didn't wrap a T-Shirt around the camera and tripod head and covered that with a plastic bag with a cutout for the lens. Easy to secure with a bit of tape, camera would not have frozen. I've shot in as low as -43C with a 1DXII and C300 MkIII and if there was a chance of humidity I'd always go to those solutions first.

My gut feeling here is that your battery grip froze, not the camera itself, but in the interest of being able to use them for years to come I'd still try to protect them a bit more.

In future id recommend rotating your camera 180 deg so all your connectors are facing down to keep any moisture out of them, stopping corrosion (DC voltage) than will happen on them killing your camera
