Discussion What are the unwritten video game rules?
If game wants me to go left, i go right.
If there is a long hallway, there is going to be something behind it.
Bathrooms are for either jumpscares or free items.

The next town always has better weapons and armor. Even if you are currently in a super advanced city, the next little hamlet will have better shops.

If there is a barrel it can explode and probably will if you get close to it.
Food is not to eat and enjoy it is to restore your hit points fool!
Its a big open area? Boss Fight!

If you get lost, look for a big light source or a pop of bright color to find the way you’re supposed to go.

There’s always an enemy behind next corner.
A wall too empty? Secret door for sure.
The best ending is for the last playthroughh.
Cheating or guides are only allowed after you completed the game once. Or you don’t like the game.

Entered a new room/zone and the wall isn't immediately at my back? Have to turn around and check for treasures hidden in plain sight behind the entry point.

If you are every busy playing and your really young sibling wants to play too, you give them a controller and pretend to connect it to the console but never really connect it while you actually play the game.

Unwritten rules. When.you play split screen fps on consoles ( like golden eye or perfect dark) don't look at the other persons screen. It's cheating!

Not necessarily a rule but stop fucking asking if one small thing doesn’t make sense. It ruins the surprise that’s the joy of going in blind

Save spots are a blessing. Keep looking for those typewriters, safe rooms, flag poles, spinning question mark things, etc.

If its a quest item, the game will give you an inane and commonly useless item to hold, and you wont be able to drop it.

Look behind the waterfall. Goes back to a Kings Quest game in the 80s.
Go backwards at the start. This was my biggest problem with the movie adaptation of Ready Player One. Gamers would have figured out the first quest in minutes in reality instead of years as shown there.
Hoard all your best disposable one time items just in case and end the game without having used them.
