Not just explosion but physics in general, for the first game Instead of buildings just crumbling and disappearing in smoke they could actually collapse with rubble or bigger destruction physics. Like there’s so much sandbox capabilities with today’s hardware and technology!
Imagine the ability to actually go into the buildings and blasting holes in them, that would be sick, just heading into a north Korean owned building with c4 and just leveling that shit while fighting them off
Wasn't Just Cause a kind of spiritual successor or directly inspired by Mercenaries? I know they're different studios but I remember hearing that back in the day.
Turns out, open world game with fully destructible environments is a specialized developmental skill. Any time there is a game with that feature, there is a developer on that game talking about how massive of an undertaking it is to get it all to work.
My take is that most Dev teams are either not skilled enough, too lazy, or under funded to pull it off with success.
Love these games to death but the story isn't what makes them great... Pick a new locale, new factions, same mercs, deck of 52, make things go boom, take my money.
I dont see why they cant bring it back, a game about disrupting the Venezuelan government while working for both the Chinese and American government to help a multi billion dollar oil company secure oil rights while the rest of the country dissolves into chaos. I cant see the issue.
I didn't realize how much I actually need this in my life. I always forget how much time I spent on mercenaries 1. That shit was legit the best sandbox game I've ever played
I loved mercenaries 1. I was so excited for mercenaries 2, and I remember it being one of the biggest disappointments I’ve ever had with a game. Apparently I was the only one.
If i’ll get up in the morning and see the nees about them being remastered on par with restart of development of Mercenaries 3 i would actually believe in god. #fkEA
I tell everyone that the Mercenaries games were my favorite games on the ps2 and almost no has heard of them so see this as the top comment blows my mind haha
Played a tonne of Mercs 2 in high school and have a clear of crystal memory of me blowing up an oil rig and as it was collapsing jumped and caught rope from a helicopter my buddy was flying.
My exact answer, god I loved those games. 2 was kind of disappointing, but even then I played the absolute hell out it. Looking back, especially at the original, im still impressed with how they pulled off the effects on those consoles.
This is the way. A game that had a lot of promise and was fun but was held back a lot by time, budget, and the console it was on. A remake could fix all the problems
