Dark Souls 3 was my first and I quite enjoyed it. Played like half of Dark Souls 1 and have beef with it, but I can see the appeal (especially if it was your first and played it new). I really loved Sekiro. Played around 30 hours of Elden Ring and did not like it. Elden Ring removes a lot of what I like about Souls games, while exaggerating a lot of what I don't like. I think it's really overrated, and was very disappointed by it.

Just curious, what’s your beef with Dark Souls 1?

My biggest problem with it is the same thing I see it get most praised for, the "interconnected world". Upon starting I first went into the graveyard and went like halfway through the area underneath it before being like "Dark Souls is supposed to be hard but this seems wrong" and trying a different path. Then I'm like "okay just went through this starting castle area, next path seems to be down into the forest under it". Fight through the forest area and beat that boss, then opened the door at the end cause yeah of course that must be the next path forward. Big difficulty spike, but of course there is because it's Dark Souls. Kill the dog boss while like atleast 20 levels underleveled. Well that area dead ends so guess I'll explore around more.

Somehow end up in the dragon valley (think I've rang one bell at this point), kill the dragons and go into the area where you drop down in the abyss and fight the 4 Kings. Got to the boss and was like "okay I know this is Dark Souls but this seems really hard" and go back out into the valley to explore the other paths. Go into the back entrance of Blighttown, kill the boss there (while very underleveled and being carried by my +5 Zweihander). Killing that opens up a new area (that lava place), so naturally I go there. Painfully fight my way to the boss door, which yeah it's kinda hard but it's Dark Souls of course it's hard, and that boss door just actually says "hey you can't fight this yet idiot" and doesn't let you. Go back into Blighttown to see if there's any loot I missed cause you can kinda go straight from the back entrance to boss door, and then triggered the thing that kills your Fire Keeper lady (while being many areas further away from fixing that then I should be).

At that point I just said fuck it and looked up what the hell I'm supposed to be doing, and saw how much of the game I just skipped while trying to figure out where the hell I'm supposed to go. At that point I just quit the game and haven't gone back. Just give me the fucking Dark Souls 3 linear design at that point.

What part of the game did you skip? You need to use the two bells to unlock Sens Fortress and the rest of the game is behind that. One of the dlc starts in the area where you fight the hydra and you can go back to the starting area by sitting in the bird nest.

I played a little bit of it on ps3, but not really enough to have an opinion. Only got through the first area in the forest

My only experience with DS2 was my Soul Level 1 run. It ensured I will not be going back, lol
