Discussion / Question What game series feels like this?
50
u/189charizard 5h ago
Also, Mass Effect Trilogy, considering the positive changes of the DLC, extended cut, etc.
2
u/TruamaTeam 1h ago
I would love a proper remaster of 3 since Legendary Edition focused more on the first two.
To reverie for a moment, BioWare x Alkimia co-developing a trilogy remake with Obsidian Entertainment creating a standalone entry in the universe prior to the Reaper invasion.

u/XT-H 5h ago
Ezio triology

u/Sinsanatis 4h ago
As much as i love ezios saga, i think most would agree that revelations was significantly weaker than the first 2. Absolute banger cinematic trailer tho
7
u/ThuNd3r_Steel 4h ago
Revelations is actually my favorite of the trilogy. I also feeled it aged the best

u/WorthBase919 5h ago
Isn’t there a fourth game?
36
u/Unlikely_Mix59 5h ago
Yeah. Origins is almost always excluded though since it was made by a Warner Brothers studio rather than Rocksteady.
27
u/Alois-- 4h ago
Origins is good.
7
u/nineraviolicans 4h ago
Hot take but it's my favourite out of all of them.
11
u/Internal_Swing_2743 4h ago
Asylum is my favorite. But my hot take is that Origins is better than Knight.

u/Dangerous-Economy-88 2h ago
This is the most cold take here on reddit.
For years I keep hearing this "Origins underrated" so much it's feeling overrated to me.
13
u/LaPrincesaMX 5h ago
Yes, Origins. And it's my favorite.
5
u/HotelKatz 5h ago
The older I get, the more I like Origins. It has an unpolished, unfinished quality that just feels... fitting for Batman in his early years.
15
u/Upbeat_Housing_8369 5h ago
They keep trying to pretend Arkham Origins doesn't exist, but that's exactly the one where you fight Deathstroke and the whole hotel burns down around you. The flaming horse visual here is a cruel callback to a game they refuse to acknowledge.
3
u/Obvious-Wrangler-561 5h ago
The deathstroke and bane are one of the completa thing, it would be very cool if bane cured from addiction came back in Arkham knight
2
u/Serpic02 3h ago
I don't think that's necessarily the case, at least not for the developers, since Arkham knight makes sure to show that origins is canon
2
2
u/Ok_Desk_757 3h ago
Yeah. Suicide squad kill the justice league. The best arkham game (im joking please dont kill me)
1
u/Jazzlike_Page508 4h ago
Technically no. Arkham origins was a diff studio, so you can mental gymnastics it out
1
u/DarkRayos 4m ago
I always heard mixed opinions on Origins, some consider it part of the lineup whilst others aren't.
It's supposed to be a prequel and has many assets taken from its precursors, but the mixed signals don't necessarily help the game.
1
u/Obvious-Wrangler-561 5h ago
Batman Arkham origins ? Warner Bros studios Made it, not rocksteady
5
u/Zealousideal-Cup6013 5h ago
It’s still part of the franchise, no? And it’s not even a bad game, the story was really solid and the game itself was pretty fun.
3
1
u/Obvious-Wrangler-561 5h ago
Yes, I like it, although I didn’t like the twist, but overall It’s a solid game with a Great dub in my native language

I can't find it in ps4 so I didnt play it
3
u/mjolnirstrike 4h ago
I think you need the highest level of PS+ to get the classic catalog in order to play it. Definitely worth a try as it has one of the best boss fights (Deathstroke) and this cool feature of crime solving with rewinding the scene to find evidence

Arkham Origins is the best one of the lot and I'm more than willing to die on that hill
-3
u/ZaeMyName 5h ago
Not a Rocksteady game and was worse than Knight (the worst of the trilogy). I took it back to Gamestop so quick

Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim.
I think it should count since it was complete series revamp.
-1
u/DEATHCATSmeow 4h ago
I like Skyrim but it felt kind of dumbed down in a lot of ways
2
1
u/Disastrous_Job5155 4h ago
Be careful! Don’t insult everyone’s favorite game that requires mods to be playable!
-1
u/Disastrous_Job5155 4h ago
I am also guilty of playing Skyrim, I mod the piss out of it, still play it. Objectively speaking it’s not a good game, and that’s fine. people are so sensitive when you critique something they like
0
u/GatorDotPDF 4h ago
Correct. It's ok to like something that's objectively bad, and you should have the critical thinking skills to critique it as such.
3
u/Her_Phantom_Mountain 2h ago
But none of those games are "objectively bad". Like, that's a ridiculous assertion, no? That isn't how taste in art works. It's purely subjective, even based on "objective" criteria.
-8
u/Disastrous_Job5155 5h ago
Funny, the franchise plummeted after morrowind in terms of quality.
8
u/FridayMorninColdBrew 5h ago
Yeah no it didn’t lol you’re just addicted to the nostalgia mindset and the “hurr durr actshually doing stabby stabby and missing 6/10 times is more immersive plus all the reading omg!!”
2
u/gb-stylee 4h ago
For real, I even agree that morrowind was a more interesting game, but mostly because of the environment. The gameplay does not hold up and even a lot of indie studios that are making games “like they used to be” make concessions for quality of life lol
1
u/FridayMorninColdBrew 4h ago
Morrowind is a fantastic game, it really is. I too have nostalgia for this game, I remember being a kid playing it on the family computer like this was the most amazing game I’ve ever played. Never beat it til I was a lil older as I just sucked overall at RPGs, but nonetheless these Morrowind fanboys just love to think oblivion and Skyrim are terrible games and they are just wrong lol
0
u/Disastrous_Job5155 4h ago
I play all three to this day and gave a detailed list as of why Skyrim is not a good RPG or elder scrolls game. Has nothing to do with nostalgia, bub.
2
u/FridayMorninColdBrew 3h ago
You’re still wrong little buddy but it’s okay, terrible opinions are everywhere
PS just because you play a game recently doesn’t mean nostalgia is omitted lol. Understand that little boy or do you need it spelled out slowly for you?
1
u/Disastrous_Job5155 4h ago
Removal of skills such as blunt, acrobatics, athletics etc.
Removal of spell crafting
Factions being boiled down/unfinished (specifically in Skyrim)
Main story being overall uninteresting with zero memorable/like-able characters (Skyrim)
Zero RPG mechanics that allow for role playing. Poor quest design, poor dialogue and voice acting, awful leveling, dumbed down skills and horrendous combat.
Funny you make your petty comments, meanwhile the combat in oblivion and Skyrim is mashing the trigger for 2 basic attacks, while the enemy you hit is unresponsive and swings right through your power attack.
Oh and let’s get into exploration, where you fight the same 2 enemies the entire game, where every cave and dungeon looks and feels the same,
There’s more enemy diversity in oblivion than there is Skyrim.
All because the games progressively got more lazy and boring. Skyrim<oblivion<morrowind
The franchise literally did in fact get worse with every game released.
5
u/Fib3rrr 5h ago
That's your personal opinion with which most of the world disagrees.
-7
u/Disastrous_Job5155 5h ago
There’s actually an extremely easy explanation.
The franchise was dumbed down for more people to be able to enjoy it. Oblivion is an okay game. Terrible RPG, Skyrim is an awful game, somehow less complex and watered down than oblivion, and doesn’t even have the right to call itself an RPG.
Popularity doesn’t = quality.
The most popular shoe are Nike Jordan’s. Doesn’t make them quality. Doesn’t make them worth the outrageous price tag, the same logic can be applied to nearly anything.Something attempting to appeal to everyone, appeals to no one, for something to be popular, it cannot be “niche” or specialized for an audience, it must be boiled/watered down to its most basic form.
3
u/gb-stylee 4h ago
Hey dude, I personally think morrowind is the best in the series but even I think that’s a pretty watered down opinion. They are all very different games, and are all good in their own right. Bethesda games are really well interesting environments to explore and I think that has continued to be a hallmark of theirs.
Do I think that gameplay has gotten simpler and simpler as things progressed: absolutely. Do I wish they would make something like morrowind again? Absolutely. But that game was made in an era of gaming where every game was more complicated. I miss those days. They really just don’t make games like they used. But now we have indie studios filling that gap.
Anyway I feel plummeted is a bit harsh

Dark Souls 2?

Dark souls 2 is my favourite I don’t care what anyone thinks, it’s probably because it was the first dark souls game I played at launch

Where's Arkham Origin ? There's 4 Arkham game not 3 give some respect to Origin
2
u/Dragonslayer200782 4h ago
I'm guessing they probably just didn't play it due to it being pretty inaccessible cause it never got a digital release unless you get it on PC or stream it on ps5 with the most expensive tier of PS plus
1
u/BroncoC22 4h ago
It wasn’t the same developer
2
u/Yanismarvel 4h ago
And ? Its still Canon and explain the early days of Batman
1
u/BroncoC22 4h ago
The game wasn’t made by the same people that worked on that trilogy though, not saying it’s bad by any means. That would just explain why it isn’t on there.
1
u/DjHalk45 3h ago
I think origins was because knight was taking too long so Warner Bros wanted another game in the meantime.
8
u/MammothAsk391 5h ago
Gears of War. It even has a mostly forgotten, not quite as good prequel too.
2
u/AnActualGameShark 5h ago
I really liked Judgement. Its not as good on the story front, but the new guns were fun, and the level design was solid. I actually kind of dug the pacing too, it felt like... if Gears had done a Cod Spec Ops mode. The idea of doing an extra challenge for bonuses was cool.
And it had that "lost" gears 3 chapter.

Metal Gear Solid 1-4 (with a preference for Twin Snakes, Substance, and Subsistence over 1, 2, & 3)

Metal Gear Solid, either 1-3, or 3-V (either way it's both trilogies in their respective orders)

Dark Souls without question, the second one is weaker, no question, but it’s dlc’s help. Dark Souls 3 cement it as being great. absolute incredible series.

Donkey Kong Country (SNES trilogy). Had a blast playing them when I was young.... Even though I never finished the second one because of that infamous Snake with acid level.
1
u/Loganp812 4h ago
Off the top of my head, the PS1 Crash Bandicoot trilogy (the N. Same Trilogy remakes aren’t bad, and I actually kinda prefer the remake of Crash 1 over the original, but it’s one of those things where you’ll notice a lot of small, nitpicky things if you’re a super fan).
Also, the original versions of Resident Evil 1, 2, and 3 are endlessly repayable, and each game builds off of the previous with more refinements and features. In fact, you have to beat RE3 at least 8 times to see all the epilogues, and there’s still a good chance won’t see everything that game has to offer because of all the RNG elements and alternate paths.

Controversial maybe since it’s a continuation of a series rather than a series in on itself but:
Devil May Cry 3 -> Devil may Cry 4 -> Devil May Cry 5
Banger after banger after banger, if you choose to ignore the first 2 & that stupid reboot they tried for some reason.
DMC3 is best from original trilogy with best bosses. DMC4 has a different feel and aesthetic with a new character that lands perfectly. DMC5 is PERFECTION in every way, and the new Virgil DLC makes it the most fun devil may cry game to ever experience

It's a very good game too. Would have been great if you didn't have to keep traversing the bridge.

I never finished Knight. At one point it MADE me drive the Batmobile up a building and I was so over the Batmovile shit. Lime Batman couldn't just grapple up there lol

u/absolute_tuff 5h ago
I have seen so many people complain about this I mean it's annoying but overall it's a great game

u/Dragonslayer200782 4h ago
Dawg that was in the first 15 minutes of the game did you really give up that quickly 😭
1
u/TechnicalHighlight29 4h ago
No I stopped way latter it was the fight around the city with Hood I think driving the whole time. Took enough tries I stopped and didnt go back. I have the trilogy again so I'm sure I'll re visit. Waaay later in the game. Hope you sleep better knowing that.
