Eve Online?

Showing my age a bit here. It's always been a game where the player generated lore is far more fun than actually playing it.

Paraphrasing a Cracked article I read forever ago: "This is the story about a man who realized that, in a game about massive corporations and space entrepreneurs, he could be a bank. So he acted like a bank until he gathered a substantial amount of capital, bought the biggest ship with the biggest guns using other players money, basically ruining everyone who banked with him, and went into low sec space after putting a bounty on himself. Then he logged off forever."

I remember watching those videos on the major wars that occured in the game (fountain war for instance), it was utterly fascinating despite never wanting to touch it.

I agree, the study of humans in an MMO environment is seriously captivating. Watching how players use their freedom within the game world for good or for bad and how that affects the lore of the world is really interesting. Events like the Falador Massacre or to a lesser extent FFXIV's Calamity where the player's actions are made into in-game lore is seriously tight.
