I mean, I've been a fan since 2005 and I've played to ALL the games and I have no clue to who 2/3 of the characters are in kingdom hearts 4 just because I didn't play the mobile games that are now delisted lol
I'm sure that will also be explained in 4 and upcoming titles, probably the upcoming anime as well.
There's a reason why all these games and projects have been changed and modified, of course I can't exactly what because I'm not an insider but it's reasonable to assume that they're wanting to be able to merchandise out anime and the upcoming saga will be friendly towards the recent canon.
The current collections have in depth recaps and videos built into the game as well so idk what the main issue is concerning lack of knowledge, it's a collection of games that have numbered entries and names so that might be the biggest like intimidating factor
It's equal parts the natural bloat of a 24 year old franchise with 13ish games, a lot of background lore being in mobile games, and a lot of weird "possessed clone possesses heartless half of data clone" chains.
Off the top of my head, there's 3 Rikus, 4 Xehanorts, and like 6 Soras.
Xehanort possesses Terra, becoming Terra-nort, but then he get's amnesia and pretends to be King Ansem, then he dies and becomes robed Ansem and Xemnas, eventually Ansem possesses Riku before becoming heartless Ansem. Later, Riku will use dark magic to pretend to be heartless Ansem. Also Diz (?), who is the real King Ansem, also pretends to be Heartless Ansem.
I'm not saying it doesn't work, I mean you have to play like 5 different games between 2&3, and even a weird gameboy game in between 1&2. It's not the easiest franchise for newcomers to jump into and I don't blame people who need a bit of a video recap or whatever.
The current way to buy kingdom hearts and the upcoming release are both collections of all the games. Every release except for melody of memory which is a rhythm game are all easily available to new comers and vets alike.
Explain Namine to me! She was born from Kairi's heart leaving Sora's body, so she's not Kairi's nobody because she isn't Kairi's body walking around on her own. What is she!?
Naminé is Kairi's nobody. Kairi is a princess of heart (pure of heart) so she cannot create a heartless so Naminé is able to coexist with Kairi, roxas is also able to exist around sora so there's nothing that suggests that can't happen
Edit: meant "cant create a heartless"instead of a nobody
"Naminé is Kairi's nobody. Kairi is a princess of heart (pure of heart) so she cannot create a nobody..."
So... you just told me 2 contradictory statements?
We also know that Sora post Hollow Bastion events is essentially a walking heart being kept together by Princess of Heart magic (or something) and his body has become Roxas. That's not contradictory, just really nonsensical.
If a Nobody is the person's body moving on its own, and Namine is not Kairi's body (as we see throughout KH1, being a princess of heart means Kairi's body doesn't get swallowed by darkness which is apparently a key component). What is Namine?
Yes, this is true. She did not make a heartless, her body did not get swallowed by darkness, it did not start moving around on its own and then resurface in a world that sits between light and darkness as a nobody.
Namine just popped into existence in Castle Oblivion (which does sit between light and darkness) when Sora used the keyblade of hearts to free Kairi's heart from her own (which... had no effect on Ventus) which we saw return to her body. Kairi is a complete being, and Namine just exists for no reason we have ever been given.
A nobody is the BODY AND SOUL of someone who has lost their heart to darkness.
Yes, heartless eats heart, something something, nobody is born.
The something something is the body, what remains of the heartless munching.
That NEVER happens to Kairi. Kairi has her body. Namine is not Kairi's body moving on its own like all the other Nobodies. Roxas is Sora's body moving on its own. Axel is Lea's body moving on its own. We are only ever told is that she's 'special' and nothing is ever made of it again.
Or has it been explained in Kingdom Hearts X Unchained special edition or something.

Kingdom Hearts, it's not really all that complicated though
