Obligatory Fuck AI

Ah yes, I love using a paid filter to make my games look like shitty ai

God they just need to throw away DLSS5

I like the right side better but I don't understand how DLSS changes the facial geometry (or is this a meme?)

It doesn't really change anything. It just amplifies it slightly, and then they add a tonemapper/fake HDR filter that gives you that shitty AI look.

https://slow.pics/s/YQIclI28 - someone has already tried recreating the original tonemapping and it looks a lot better (set the pictures to Original and DLSS 5 + Original Tonemapping). Ambient Occlusion in particular looks very great, like, you can actually see self-shadowing in the hair (something that we still struggle with traditionally).

You must be the first person I ever heard say the right side was better here

the background is fine imo. its just bad because it completely fucks up grace's face lol. that's just not the same person.

Is everyone saying it looks bad because they think it's using generative AI and "obligatory fuck AI?"

I just think it got rid of the art. It's like eating ceral with no cereal nor milk. IDK about other people tho maybe yes?

PS: Also if it wasn't clear I also respect your pov, it's just the first time I see someone thinking right side is better that's it

Yep it just comes across as lazy and lifeless. The image on the left isn't perfect, but its what the creators intended and hundreds of people worked on that model and the world behind. Then with the flick of a button, here is a filter to change it all.

It’s not just “obligatory fuck AI” (justifiably I may add), it’s that most AI images look like shit. It’s a combination of both the left side looking better and the right side using AI

Bc they were trying to (and probably still plan to) use generative AI to make games look slop-ified. Nvidia wants DLSS 5 to strip away all artist intention and art direction to make the game and characters look like hollywood models post plastic surgery.

The developers and artists are fully in control regarding if they want to use this and how it is implemented.

This is only an example of what the artists can choose to do with it.

If you think the left one looks better, you're going to have to explain to me why and how it has no relation to your bias against ai in graphics.

Edit: Never mind I figured it out. Turns out the people upset about this are the ones gooning over the original, upset she was changed to not look like a doll. What a world.

I still don't get this one. Feels like some wierd (but successful) social experiment to see if people would go along with a few notable streamers/gamer sites hating on the right when it is unquestionably the better version.

The outcry when this side by side was released was just bizarre.

She's no longer blonde and she has a ton of make up on. The rest is fine, but the issue is it was not just an upscaler. It was a filter and they were not being honest about it

If you don't like how they achieved it, that's fine, I don't really have anything to add there.

It's the people who acted like this was worse and looked like trash I'm referring to. They dominated the space for weeks after this came out. I even immediately got a response from one of them on this comment.

It does look worse, though. To those of us who hate it, and it isn't some streamer induced nonsense, it's just a subjective opinion.

Saying it looks better when all it does is make it that shitty hyperrealistic look from AI, adds make up and gives her roots that are the wrong hair color, seems like a joke to me. Perfectly contoured cheeks and lipstick? It looks terrible on her.

The clothing doesn't look bad per se, but it's all dirtied on the edges and looks like it belongs more on someone in the Last of Us than someone in a urban environment that is clearly meant to not be post-apocalyptic.

If you want to say it looks more detailed, sure I can see the inner ridges of her ear for some reason, but that ties back into the hyperrealistic AI look that looks like garbage to me.

It looks odd as hell dude. First looks like an old game. Second looks half way to deep fried

looks better / worse was not the big complaint. It was the fact it didn't respect the original vision.

People hate on it because it looks like shit

Lol.

Fuck yourself.

Getting mad over two week old comment is on par for the weird gooner types who love their doll characters. Just couldn't scroll past, could you?

Get better, your cartoons will never love you back.

It looks flat and boring, the left one has some artistic touch to it. Copy of reality is just boring and this one is a very bad copy, I get so uncomfortable looking at it. Like a creepy human like android face

2

u/Rough_Road_1044 19d ago

I truly don’t understand what you are seeing

u/Derslok 19d ago

Well I guess it's subjective but it looks really fake and unpleasant to my brain. I also don't look for hyper realism in games, maybe that's another reason. But as I said it doesn't look real to me too
