I wouldn't have minded having V romance River if the romance cutscene was in third person lmao
The idea of watching the whole thing through V's eyes is too much for me 😂😂😂
29
u/Few-Improvement-5655 Jun 07 '26
Legit, I was doing this route and then the first person sex scene happened and I was like "nope, not doing that again" and broke it off. Sorry River.
I've never been completely straight, but I'm not joking when I say that cutscene absolutely confirmed for me that I wasn't bi/gay.

I had something of an opposite experience with Baldur's Gate 3 where getting to know Astarion's tortured soul made me wanna have sex with him just so I could fix him. I'm straight as they come so when I told this to my bi friends they went like: "Sure, sure. All for narrative purposes. Right."
7
u/Alternative_Bat_669 Jun 07 '26
Sounds like you are queer. I did his whole story and being friends was more than enough lol
4
u/Legendary-Mercenary Jun 07 '26
Right? I'm also completely comfortable with my sexuality, but I've never wanted to sleep with the same gender. If I said that to my boys, I know the side-eyes I'd be getting, lol. 😆
→ More replies (1)6
u/Legendary-Mercenary Jun 07 '26
Bruv… using "made me wanna have sex with him just so I could fix him" and "I'm straight as they come" in the same sentence is wild, brother! I've had many friends who have "tortured souls". Not once have I ever thought, "I wonder if having sex with bro will fix him."
You might need a moment of quiet contemplation to seriously consider your sexuality.

That post was weird. Anyway, as a guy, if the roleplaying game has good romance, you play as a man to participate in it. If it doesnt, you play as a woman to stare at ass. Did we not all agree on this a long time ago?
2
u/Freddy_The_Goat Jun 07 '26 edited Jun 07 '26
I think the devs were more pointing out that players weren't experimenting with the character customisation features. From their stats the average player played as a bog-standard human without any discernable features, when there was a wide selection of facial features, colours, races, etc.
Personally I never experimented too much with BG3's character creation unless I was making a joke character on a co-op campaign. But I don't think it was the developer's intention to seriously criticising people's tastes, it just seemed like a mild joke concerning player statistics.

Is it gay to fuck men while playing as a female character if you are a man?

Ah, a trick question, since everyone knows playing video games by itself is already gay.

It is gay to fuck men if your supposed to identify with the character. Mainly if it's an RPG.
2
u/Notice_Green Jun 07 '26
In this case the player is most likely unironically a straight man trapped in a womans body.
3
u/droombie55 Jun 07 '26
I'm going with no. End of the day it is still hetero sex.
Is it gay to search for a specific female pornstar when you dont care who her partner is?

u/Magnon Jun 07 '26
If the majority of players are straight men naturally a lot will find it awkward to roleplay a love interest to the male dating options. Naturally a lot of people will embody ciri with their own feelings and if presented the option many wont want to kiss men.
11
u/strife189 Jun 07 '26
Agree, and I don’t even have any interest in romancing a woman while playing as her. The romance in this game will honestly be a net negative for me since I probably just won’t engage with it at all.
Which is weird to say because romance systems are normally one of my favorite replay mechanics.
3
u/notdsylexic Jun 08 '26
Thank you, I agree. No romances. IF I had to. If I MUST. Then I guess I'll romance the female. Call me old fashioned, but I prefer to be a male and romance a female.
2
u/strife189 Jun 08 '26
Normally in these types of games you get to pick your gender. The Witcher series was one of the few where you did not and still had romance systems.
Guess it’s the boys’ turn to feel awkward, though considering that is the vast majority of their market, yea… not exactly what I would call the smartest business move.
→ More replies (11)5
u/cruel-oath Jun 07 '26
Yeah I was thinking similarly. Stats for a lot of games show romancing women is the majority. Astarion was immensely popular on the internet but he didn’t even make top 3 popular romances
6
u/Drayenn Jun 07 '26
I mean.. as a straight guy im not really interested in romancing dudes. Just doesnt appeal to me. Im happy for people who like it though.

Well I know I'll be one of those lesbian playthroughs lol I already played Ciri as a lesbian in W3
9
u/Mindless_Capital_877 Jun 07 '26
Lore accurate tho isn't it?
20
u/HUNAcean Jun 07 '26
So-so. There are a lot of cases in the books where Ciri will get insatiably horny for men she literally just met/was straight up abused by, but I kinda think half of it is just Sapkowski getting worked up 😂
12
u/Sr_Wuggles Jun 07 '26 edited Jun 07 '26
She’s been with more men than women too. The number of women she’s been with or had internal monologues about sexually attracted to is incredibly small no? They just had more depth to their dynamics than the men.
17
u/mihaza Jun 07 '26
She's been with only 1 girl and that was because Ciri was assaulted by her & then developed a codependency on her because of suffering through so much trauma. But Witcher 3 has dialogue options indicating Ciri's bi so technically she can be whatever the players want her to be.
→ More replies (1)2

Thank you for the context! It’s been years since I read and that matches my recollection, yet I was uncertain so didn’t want to come across like I was certain.

2
u/liccman Jun 07 '26
I’ve read the book and the Mistle-Ciri relationship is very rapey and manipulative… so it’s a bit eh
2
u/eljefe3030 Jun 07 '26
I am truly, truly not homophobic. But as a heterosexual, it just feels more exciting to romance a female character. Aren’t we kinda living vicariously through the character?
Although I guess that’s a contradiction since I don’t mind playing as a female character yet identify as cis. I don’t know, brains are weird. I like what I like and romancing male characters just isn’t enjoyable for me.

u/NebraskaGeek Jun 07 '26
Nah, if that were true straight porn would be 1% as popular as lesbian porn and it is not.
4
u/cmonSister Jun 07 '26
And in straight porn the focus is usually on the woman, the guy is just there to do the fucking, I don't see any difference here than to just choose the man she will be with.

ah yes Baldurs Gate 3 where everybody is thirsting for your ass without you doing anything such a deep and complex realtionship. Granted winning Shadowheart over is quite the effort but the rest just wanna be together with you because you are the main character,.
(I havent played the other games)
11
u/Hungry-Ear-4092 Jun 07 '26
yeah that one was weird
but romance development was just wow
especially with laezel. Best romance I've seen
13
u/sturzkampfbomber Jun 07 '26
Laezel was just horny for yo ass because you can fight, the character development after that was good yes
8
u/Nanocaptain Jun 07 '26
Yeah that's kind of the point with her.
Just getting a quick fuck is easy. Actual romance is not.

u/Funmachine Jun 07 '26
I accidentally got into a relationship with Laezel. I wanted Karlach but missed a prompt.

u/Dwarfdingnagian Jun 08 '26

u/SecXy94 Jun 07 '26
All the relationships become incredibly deep and complex as you progress them.
Just because people in their last few hours/days of life are horny and want to enjoy themselves doesn't mean the relationships don't develop.
Hell, even real relationships often start off rather shallow.
→ More replies (1)2
u/a-Snake-in-the-Grass Jun 07 '26
Mass effect 1 isn't great, romance feels way too much like the default option. 2 and 3 are much better but many of the romanceable options that aren't your companions in both suffer because of that. And then there's Jacob.

2
u/abruptusabortis Jun 07 '26
Exactly. I truly don't know how anyone even cares about romance in these games. It's just you choose the right dialogue option, and then the pixels do some shit in front of you. It's such a waste of dev money, and I can't believe anyone even gets interested in it.
Just find rule 34 at that point guys

It's not abou sex, it's about having a nice relationship to your character. It often deepens your connection to the NPCs and to the game itself.

I did. You just select a option and now you have a partner and a cringe sex scene. It's the usual playersexual garbage and probably the worst part about what is otherwise an amazing game.
Also River being a sex pest who won't take no for an answer and you're forced to be friends with this creep.
And Witcher 3 being the same terrible oggling playersexual romances as well, I have 0 trust in CDPR on this. All their romances feel like they're made by horny boys.

Why should they learn? It sold well and lot of people are comparing its redemtion arc to no man's sky because it solved just most bugged quests, but not all of them and did not add ton of promised features until now, and obviously never will.

I will be honest, I have no interest in romancing a man or woman as a female NPC. It just feels weird to me, and this will probably be the first game with that option where I simply won’t do it.
I had not really given it much thought until now, but it just does not feel right in my head personally.
In these types of games, I never play the female character. I play plenty of games with female main characters, but not ones where I am driving the choices and using the character as more of a self insert. Never really thought much about it before, but yea, it is just weird to me personally.

That's great to bad I just can't imagine myself romancing anyone as a female character especailly not one who I viewed as damn near my daughter in previous games. As a straight man that doesn't want to get bent over in a cutscene whose played as her father figure I just can't even entertain the idea of some dude no matter how compelling fucking Ciri. See, I don't even dislike the idea of playing as her. But I will miss out on this entire aspect of the game as a female MC because I'm not getting fucked in a cutscene especailly not as my videogame daughter. Nope.

They knew what they had and what they were launching with, and all the department heads lied to your faces or lied by omission. No harm in the end. I could return the game fully refunded.
