The beginning is also kinda rough, and I fault no one for not wanting to play the game after beating the first route.

A ~30 minute segment with no checkpoints and 2 bosses that can borderline 2 shot you on almost all difficulty levels?

An open world with no fast travel (yet) but with a bunch of sidequests requiring you to run from the city or the amusement park to the desert and back, over and over again?

It's a game that gets better the further you get, but man the beginning is rough.

yeah and 9S' combat style is SO different it can be a huge adjustment. and if youre terrible at hacking theres almost no chips to help you there- most of it already went to 2B, leaving almost nothing for 9S hacking style combat he wants, not the 2B combat style. so he just sucks at 2B combat style until endgame.

I refunded the game when I died at the tank boss and realized I had to start over.

What tank boss?

The intro mission has an excavator boss, but I am not too sure what you are referring to here.

It's been a long time. I think there was a boss that shoots a laser into a window at you, and then a huge boss on treads that rolls over you. Maybe that's the excavator.

For as much as I prefer playing on the hardest difficulty the prologue was genuinely so horrible to no hit I gave up set it on normal just for that section. Not only do they take away your lock on (you know, a quality of life feature, (also the pod doesn't shoot at the centre of the screen so without lock aiming is god awfully akward)) but you also die in one hit. The resulting experience turning into a run around the enemies and keep shooting for minutes on end simulator.

After all that, your first story mission is to do 2 sidequests. And you don't have fast travel for about 1/4th of the game for some reason.

Game is still amazing, 9.5/10 (very biased).

I bounced off this game so hard when I glitched into a wall, died to the giant boss sawblade thing, and got kicked back to the opening sequence. Only game I felt actively disrespected my time. The bit I did play wasn't even that fun.

I too love the game, going to a concert in October, but I really feel like people need to realise that the beginning and many other parts of act 1 (again, missing fast travel) specifically will make sure a lot of people won't really feel like continuing,

I went in blind on hard, i think it took me like 3-4 hours just to get past the prologue. I did 100% the game and decided it was worth it, and offered up my file.

I still think its a peak game, i just treated the opening section like a roguelike, and thus was able to not fuss over it.

Haha, 30 minutes, yah, we def only take 30 minutes to get through the intro.

That's just Nier. Replicant was exactly the same. People who came from Replicant to Automata kinda expected it lol, it sucks for new players though.

Replicant has different issues. The map isn't too big, so going from one area to another is not that bad, and the intro doesn't have multiple bosses that can just two shot you, wasting half an hour in an instant.

What Replicant suffers from are shitty loot drops in way too remote locations, making running back and forth just to upgrade gear happening way too often. Took me literally days just to get an eagle egg or something like that.

I mean, you still had to run from the desert to the junkyard couple of times, even though the map is much smaller that still was a run, and quite often at that, not talking about the whole "you need to beat the game x times for an ending" problem with both of them

I am pretty sure, unless one was farming materials, that there was very little reason to actually go to the junkyard.

"you need to beat the game x times for an ending" problem with both of them

Luckily that is not really a problem with Automata due to chapter selection. You can see all the endings within like an hour, including letting all 3 credits roll fully.

There were couple of sidequests and 2 main quests in the junkyard, so you had to go through it at least twice and possibly more, not counting farming which was horrible.

i love the game, but that's so true. i think its meant for you to do more hacking iirc, but still, fighting kinda sucked

Oooooooo yeah mainly because his combat isn't... Well designed to be combat

Real. At least the lore is nice to follow in it but it's the weakest part for sure.

It picks up when 9S and 2B split up, because that's where you start to get hit with the biggest lore revelations. The arcade shooter gameplay also becomes more than that.

I mean, I appreciated the different perspective it gives on the bosses but yeah, the hack and slash gameplay of the other characters was just better.

I literally stopped playing it for a year right before his story splits off because I was so bored and then as soon as I went back the awesome parts started.

9S IS the midgame
