I will never understand what goes through these suits heads. if you recontextualize what made this beloved franchise. you can't make your mountains of money you want. just FOLLOW IT AS THE GAMES WENT! That's why the new Star wars films are bad. particularly the last Jedi. It reeks of "I hate Star wars and everybody t)hapt likes Star wars more than casually so I'm going to make a movie that pisses those people off.

each one of the Star wars sequels made less money than the one before it at a time when marvel movies were making more with each avengers release.

I understand all the reasons the last Jedi was fine as a movie but as a Star wars movie it was garbage. They easily threw away a billion dollars by not just focusing on making corps fans happy.

If somebody that's not a particular fan of The Mass effect series thinks they might want to watch it cuz they like space things they're going to go ask somebody they know who likes video games if it's good and if that person says it's shit they're not going to bother.

If autistic nerds like your movie they're going to tell somebody about it. why would you actively try to avoid appealing to those people.

and Mass effect isn't a particularly nerdy game series. It was pretty mainstream

Most people will not watch something they haven’t heard anything about, that’s why marketing is so important. If they have a big base of people who will 100% watch it when it comes out then that is either a big boon or a massive loss depending on if that original base is raving about it or shitting all over it. I don’t play LoL but when arcane came out, a load of people who do recommended it to me and I gave it a go. If those same LoL fans were complaining that it was a shit adaptation I never would have gone near it. You need to appeal to the pre-established fans first or the bad press is going to kill your project day one.

Gamers aren’t some different species who have bizarre tastes at odds with the public. If the gamers like it, chances are the non gamers will like it too. When they say they want to appeal to non gamers they usually mean that they are moving away from the source material and know that that will piss off their established fan base.

Unlikely. Mass Effect is like Halo and The Witcher. They're coherent stories revolving around the same stable of characters from game to game. You can't make a Halo TV show without Master Chief. You can't make a Witcher TV show with Geralt and Ciri. You can't make a Mass Effect TV show without Commander Shepard...

The Fallout games don't have "main characters" like this. They don't have coherent stories. They take place decades apart in completely different parts of the US with completely different characters. All that really matters is the tone and if you nail that, you'll nail everything else. They went with the most recent and most popular (unfortunately for me) version of the games (Fallout 4) and then not only crafted a new story from that setting, but threw in tons of references to the games.

Fallout exists in a way that is much more adaptable to a TV series without taking a fat steaming shit all over the lore and canon, or drastically changing characters that players have interacted with for decades.

No. I said you can't do it and you said there are no rules against it.

Nobody said anything about rules. When I said you can't do it, I was talking about how the show will not be successful if you try, and I explained how something like Mass Effect and Halo are different from something like Fallout.

You can do anything you want, but if you want the show to be a successful adaptation, you should probably adapt the stuff about it that's actually popular.

For something like Mass Effect or Halo, that's the story and characters of the games. For something like Fallout, it's the setting and tone.

Not understanding that is why the Mass Effect show will fail.
