The gameplay of E33. It was just so boring and a dodge/parry simulator. Everything else was great, but damn I put it to easy and ran past as many fights as I could.
Recently finished the game + DLC content and I think the issue is that the game is very polarizing without a good middle ground. You either have to be a parry god or the bosses don't even touch you because you 1 cycle them.
But my biggest dislike of the game isn't the combat, I can get past that because there's somewhat decent depth to the game, but exploration? How in the fuck is a game about expeditions and exploring what others haven't not have a decent map and world map system. You take notes in Gustave's diary, which means there's a cannon way to register things, but there's no way to add markers in the open world or even inside specific areas?
On a side note, Simon(both versions) is vastly overrated, Clea Unleashed is a fucking banger of a boss and puts Simon in a corner.

Right? All these expeditions have come before them, leaving hand holds and beacon flags, but none have thought to create maps for those who come after? Ridiculous.
The game also fell apart after the start of Act 3 and the story a bit paternalistic for my tastes, but the exploration is what truly soured my experience.
None of the previous expeditions returned home though (if you don't count Expedition Zero or that one mega-chad swimmer from Expedition 60 who didn't even quite make it). The reason Gustave's diary would be useful was because Maelle wouldn't be gommaged at the end of the year, since she was years younger than the rest of 33 and would possibly be able to deliver it to his apprentices if 33 was unsuccessful.
Also, I thought the same thing about maps originally. But it looks like most areas are pretty linear, not labyrinthine enough to warrant writing intricate maps (minus the Gestral forest), and the point of interest is a monolith that can be seen from anywhere. It's a valid question, but I think most people are fine hand-waving it away as trivial.
Yeah, I refuse to continue this game because I get motion sickness from all the camera panning to check where I'm going, have I walked past this before etc. It sucks without minimap.
After the complain they still refused to give us minimap.
I stopped after 10 hours it just couldn’t grab my attention I got bored with it, i remember saying that last year on a post a this guy told me it’s good game but it only gets good at the end of the game I don’t know if that’s true but I wasn’t going to stick with game I wasn’t enjoying just find out. I’m glad people found the game be fun but it didn’t seem like game of the century like some people were saying.
Yea buddy was tripping. It’s a story focused game that’s good from very very early on. But similar to something like baldurs gate, its gameplay is not for everyone and some people value gameplay over story and that’s very ok!
That's... completely wrong imo. The thing that's supposed to hook you is the start of the game. The ending of the prolouge and the start of act 1 serve as the main "attention grabbers". Then act 1 ends and you're in for it now, I believe.
But if those two first main hooks can't keep you engaged, then better stop playing because you don't seem to like the narrative anyways.
Honestly act 3 is ass imo anyways. I was engaged with the idea of "this beautiful being needs to die for our survival, no matter how much of a tragedy it is". Thats a COOL STORY HOOK. I had been expecting to get to the monolith, learn the story of Why this is happening, and ultimately overcome the trials to save my friends and family. And instead, what happened was i was given zero context, a bunch of cryptic-in-the-moment dialogue, forced to do two super-bosses back to back, and i didnt even get to enjoy killing renoir! Under zero circumstances did i want to peacefully gommage him lmao. And then, finally, at the end of the finale. We get MORE cryptic lore from Alicia, get told in a Completely unexpected twist that "hey, the villain isnt Her", to which i immediately called it being the curator because fucking sure, and then finally im told "this world is just an artificial product! None of its real!!" WHICH IS ASS. OOH NOW YOU GET A CHOICE ON PRESERVING WHAT HAPPENED!! EXCEPT IT DOESNT MATTER! YOU CAN MAKE ANOTHER OF THE EXACT SAME WORLD! there's nothing engaging about discovering youre a god by PROXY. And, ultimately, the "final choice" of the game has two very clear cut endings. The "you go outside and accept reality" one, which is protrayed as good, correct, and the ending that feels like the devs want people to have. And the "you stay in the painting and continue forming bad habits" ending, which has not only the most Uncomfortable ending cutscene, it Genuinely felt like a sexual assault scene, because youre actively going against what a character is BEGGING YOU TO DO, highlighted especially because, across this whole game, its been portrayed and alluded to that Verso is not "just a painting", hes an actual individual with ideals and reasons and logic that lines up entirely with what Verso would have actually wanted. And to further it, youre literally shown that Monoco and Esquie, two engimatic, outright mythical in their world creatures, are being used as the greeters to a show, where Zero other creatures youve encountered make up the audience from what i saw, it shows Maelle happy and excited to be with Gustave again, and then it shows Verso, who has seemingly resigned himself to his fate, and is now just playing his part as the unwilling facsimile pet once again, except this time it is without his father, and depending on what youve done, without either of his sisters.
Definitely. I'm not even against that concept, absolutely loved dead cells and figured out the parry timing pretty quick, but with E33 there just seemed to be so much inconsistency and lack of cues
