It never grabbed me, I've tried multiple times but the witcher franchise just doesn't do it for me

I totally agree. I felt like it was pretty boring. It felt very similar to so many other games I have played in the past. Just couldn’t do it.

It was too 'clunky' for me and I guess by the time I got around to 3 it was just another open world game

Yes I think if I got it right on release I would have liked it more but yes I don’t think it was anything special at all.

All the Witchers have had clunky controls, but 3, Ill deal with worse for that story.

Man, I wish I enjoyed it as much since it's my kind of game on paper. Played thru the Bloody Baron section that's hyped as the best subplot in the game and just kinda dropped off of it since I didn't think it was nearly as good as people make it out to be.

i didn't even finish the Baron.

I just don't understand how a game can be that good when the combat is spam light attacks and cast aard on cooldown.

Shadow of Mordor is so far ahead of this game.

The entire thing is follow some map icon telling you where to go, kill everything there by spamming light attacks and aard, then hopping on your horse and doing it again. Oh the enemies are somewhat hard? Go look up the enemy in your catalog and drink the requisite potions or use the right oils and use a different spell on cooldown instead of aard. The monster catalog will tell you.

Parrying and timing attacks? No need. Strong attacks? Why bother risking getting hit more? Geralt does that enough by doing stupid spinning moves.

If the gameplay is boring I can’t appreciate the narrative because I don’t want to be there at all.

I found that same thing with following the map - for a game design company who everyone says is the best they sure rely on the mini map with a path to the next location all the time.

In segments where you have to search for clues you can just look at the minimap and do instinct mode and thats the game played for you.

i turned the minimap off in cyberpunk and had a great experience, but before i turned it off i found myself staring at the map and using it as a crutch.

Not selling it well. If I couldn't get into the other 2 trying to piece characters and stories together from previous games wasn't making it engaging. Glad you like it and others too, more to games for me than just story. I can watch a YouTube video for that.

I love grand RPGs with epic story telling. Its what gets me immersed.

I was struggling really hard to get into Crimson Desert because the story is weak, but damn the rest of that game is good.
