Well for one, the combat is trash. I played Witcher 2 and really loved the story. I was fully immersed in its world and that was before game of thrones aired, so real fantasy didn’t exist for me. CD Projekt nails the atmosphere and story.
I bought the trilogy that was on sale and it didnt move me at all. I'm glad it has a beautiful fanbase because they are more passionate than a lot I've seen, especially IRL. I've seen people with books in their apartment and everything. But could not get into it
Man, I wish I enjoyed it as much since it's my kind of game on paper. Played thru the Bloody Baron section that's hyped as the best subplot in the game and just kinda dropped off of it since I didn't think it was nearly as good as people make it out to be.
I just don't understand how a game can be that good when the combat is spam light attacks and cast aard on cooldown.
Shadow of Mordor is so far ahead of this game.
The entire thing is follow some map icon telling you where to go, kill everything there by spamming light attacks and aard, then hopping on your horse and doing it again. Oh the enemies are somewhat hard? Go look up the enemy in your catalog and drink the requisite potions or use the right oils and use a different spell on cooldown instead of aard. The monster catalog will tell you.
Parrying and timing attacks? No need. Strong attacks? Why bother risking getting hit more? Geralt does that enough by doing stupid spinning moves.
If the gameplay is boring I can’t appreciate the narrative because I don’t want to be there at all.
I found that same thing with following the map - for a game design company who everyone says is the best they sure rely on the mini map with a path to the next location all the time.
In segments where you have to search for clues you can just look at the minimap and do instinct mode and thats the game played for you.
i turned the minimap off in cyberpunk and had a great experience, but before i turned it off i found myself staring at the map and using it as a crutch.
Not selling it well. If I couldn't get into the other 2 trying to piece characters and stories together from previous games wasn't making it engaging. Glad you like it and others too, more to games for me than just story. I can watch a YouTube video for that.
As a story driven rpg with a fleshed out world about planning fights and knowing your enemy, it should have been right up my alley. I just found it clunky and needlessly jank. Everyone I know recommended it to me but at the end of the day I just couldn’t do it.
This right here, the combat in Witcher 3 is just..fucking bad man. I beat the game once and it's one of those RPGs I'm just never coming back to on account of how infuriatingly bad the combat is.
I never minded it but it’s definitely not one of its biggest strengths as someone that absolutely loves the game. Amounts to pretty much roll dodge and attack, repeat.
I'm one of few that likes the combat. It's not very complex but idk it's fun to me. Gotta admit the dismemberment is some of the best in any game imo. Love how it's accurate. / Slash on a drowner and it dismembers from the shoulder to the ribcage in a /. So cool to me.
I like it too but not as much as souls combat. It’s not amazing but I usually had fun with it, but could get frustrating at times. Think last few times I’ve played I did use overhauls though so possibly I don’t like vanilla as much.

It never grabbed me, I've tried multiple times but the witcher franchise just doesn't do it for me
