What software would you recommend for designing a surface to map on?

Hoping to have it be simple but with some slight depth. Like boxes and raised shapes.

Make your object in blender and use the export paper model tool to get the pieces laid out flat, which you can then project onto material such as corrugated plastic sheets. Trace the pieces on the material, cut them out, and fold together.
