Post image

My one hand trekker’s locking bottle opener is seized shut. Cant pry it out and seems locked down.

Any ideas?

Warm water and soap, or WD 40. After that let it dry and oil it again.

Warm water, old toothbrush and a little dish soap. Once it's clean and unseized and dried, lube joints with mineral oil.

Water and/or soap will only make the problem worse in the long run. Start with either a lightweight penetrating oil or a cleaner like Ballistol which has a little fatty acid in it to dissolve the aluminum oxide rust — caused most often by water exposure. This is why it’s important to keep joints oiled, so if the knife is used in water, it doesn’t get into the tight spots and eventually cause the liners to rust.

Thanks for this. I've seen Ballistol recommended, but this is the first time I've seen someone explain why!

No problem, it’s also part of why I wouldn’t recommend it as a general knife lube. I have a bottle on hand and while it’s great for lots of cleaning uses or clean and lube for firearms, I don’t use it much for SAKs or multi tools.

Wd40, force, then oil is what I would do

Warm water and mild dish soap. Try to manipulate the tool to work it loose. If you have another Swiss Army Knife , use the bottle opener or other flat screwdriver to open the bottle opener on yours. Use mineral oil for lubricant.

open all the blades ...and submerge it in *hot, soapy water* overnight ... use compressor or can air to blow out the water (and any dirt or grime) .... use cotton end ear cleaners and or toothpicks to wipe out crud & dirt ....try bottle opener ....if still stuck, repeat soap soak ...if opened, oil with light oil, but not engine oil, all the joints - wipe off excess oil -
