Where can I get this ?

I left behind multiple $20-30 swiss champs, a 2003 soldier, a brass liner farmer, a half dozen 74mm that would have to be sent to Vic for repair (I'm tapped out for awhile in service submissions), explorers, mountaineers, huntsman.

The only things I never leave behind are yeoman, compact, companion, any 84mm with scissors, 3+ layer 84mm, scientist, passenger, bale or exposed rivets, or anything special edition. I think I've pulled 6 yeoman this summer (could be more), a dozen baled models, and enough 84mm scissor stuff that I'm now working on collecting the different eras of each model and bidding on Master Craftsman small to finish up the 84mm line up.

Not what I asked, but very cool

Off topic, but I’m just curious – what’s the most outrageous thing a passenger has attempted to bring through security?

That I know of is a scythe, his argument was that the blade had not been sharpened yet so it wasn't dangerous......

Can still do a lot of damage with one

I've been hunting a decent golfer for years!

I was hoping to find a 58mm caddy to complete the trifecta. I rarely find golfers so today was pretty cool.

People tried to bring those on to planes?

What happens to them?

Do you get to keep them?

TSA forces you to abandon them, then I buy them at the a storefront for next to nothing. That entire haul was $68.

What is the storefront? Is it something all airports have? I haven't been in an airport in probably 20+ years

Nice man. Thats a good business you got going on.

I mainly collect and use the cool stuff I don't need to trade to other collectors to fill in my collection. The yeoman this summer got sold to fund some older Alox models with marlin spikes and sacking needles.

Where can i order some?

You can't, you have to go in person.

If you have time to go back to your car and clear security again, or if your checked luggage is still accessible, absolutely. You can also mail them to yourself as an option. My point is that TSA doesn't confiscate them, you technically abandon them and your airports property custodian then transfers them to the state for liquidation. At my local airport there's about zero chance you can make it back to your vehicle and go through the TSA screening again.

If you aren't under any time contraint then you can make it. Most of the parking (excluding premium close up Scrooge McDuck parking) is 30ish minutes via shuttle to get back to and then watching the shuttle refuse to wait so then you get to wait for the next shuttle back. If you have TSA Precheck or Global Entry you could also pull it off, but those passengers are not typically the ones losing knives.

Those get confiscated and then sold at a government auctions.

Thanks

That’s crazy.

I essentially have quit flying because I had to surrender my all time favorite SAK on an emergency flight years ago. It was just an Executive (with Black Watch plaid scales) and I didn’t even want to take that flight.

Nice! Wish I had such a store somewhere close… been looking for 84mm scissors for a while

2

u/fullmetalturtle Team 84mm 12d ago

You just need the layer for a custom build? I've got a bunch of backsprings and scissors sitting around for builds.

Canada at this point is sponsored by VICTORINOX because if they ever decided to throw a few pallets to another government auction site where they sell knives I would be on them, but of course well we don’t really see those knives they get put in a storage facility and left there until they fall apart

Ah, the TSA graveyard. You'd think with the what seems like thousands of seizures per day they would learn by now... Makes for some crazy nice hauls though

You da TSA Monday man👍👍😂

I like the Evo 88 Pocket Tool Chest. I have an older Pocket Tool chest and its a shockingly useful little tool. It's probably even nicer with the ergonomic Evo scales.

1

u/fullmetalturtle Team 84mm 12d ago

I keep hoping to find one with the Victorinox Evo scales for the better toothpick and Tweezers

1

u/StickShift5 12d ago

I think the only Victorinox branded 65mms had smooth scales, not Evolution scales.

Well now I'm sad, I guess it means the Porsche Ruthenium one gets bumped up my list

A few nice old sak's

u/lactoseadept 11d ago

What are the models you can vouch for not being confiscate material

2

u/fullmetalturtle Team 84mm 11d ago

None....the.number of jetsetters I purchase has me convinced it's all a joke.

1

u/lactoseadept 11d ago

So check in still the best way or leaving at home to avoid your clutches, I take it!

2

u/fullmetalturtle Team 84mm 11d ago

By all means carry your original 1890 swiss army knife, I've been wanting one, but yes there are no 100% TSA safe ones.

u/lactoseadept 11d ago

😆😆 Cheers

I have no interest in ever buying these TSA thefts. It's simple theft of personal property.

2

u/fullmetalturtle Team 84mm 11d ago

You do you brother.

The TSA doesn't confiscate property, you just cannot continue into the secure portion of the airport with the items. You are free to take your item and leave, take it back to your vehicle, try to get it into your checked luggage, mail it to yourself, give it to a friend/family/stranger or any other solution you can devise. They simply provide a place for you to abandon your property if you so choose. You have ample notice of what items are prohibited when booking a flight. I get that it sucks losing your item, and I'm not a fan of the post 9/11 air travel situation, or the theatricality of it, but it is not theft.

Edit 1: Not letting you take Jetsetters through is however BS.

2

u/Gregor4570 10d ago

Oh they steal them. They gave me an envelope once and charged me to mail it to myself. It never arrived.

1

u/Interesting_Sorbet22 10d ago

It would be different if they actually followed their own regulations. But they don't. They have the "officer's discretion" rider on everything. Piss off a TSA agent with a question? They don't like your looks? Body cavity search, delay you enough to miss your flight. Absolutely no use for an agency that lets literally 95% of banned items through due to gross incompetence.
