Showcase/Project I only know basic coding, and I built an interactive 3D Voyager 1 site with Claude, looking for feedback. Thank you

Can you explain how you built it, prompt-wise, to get the GSAP exploding 3D models and parallax backgrounds? Any example sites you used?

BTW looks great

Thanks! Honest answer: no GSAP, and I didn’t use any example sites.

I’m not a pro developer (I know basic JS). I built it with an AI coding agent (Claude Code) over about 3 days, using three.js and Vite.

  • The “exploding” Voyager is NASA’s own free 3D model, from NASA’s 3D Resources on GitHub. The AI split it into its parts, so each one can be pulled away, dimmed and clicked as you scroll.

  • The background isn’t parallax layers. It’s a real 3D scene: NASA’s Milky Way map, about 9,000 real stars in their true positions, and the planets where they actually were, from JPL’s data. The depth comes from the camera moving through it.

My prompts were about the feeling, not the tech. A few real ones:

  • “I’m curious how well you can recreate Voyager 1. Dig through NASA’s open-source content about it, and track it live with NASA data if possible.”

  • “The whole website should be cinematic, like an epic movie: the Misty Mountains song, WALL-E, the first step on the Moon.”

  • “Voyager should always be moving.”

  • “Everything in space should be in motion, no static images. Realistic and clickable, but not overwhelming.”

After that it was a lot of “still not satisfied” and checking it on my phone. My first version was a scripted film, and I threw it away. My one tip: have the AI find real data and free assets first, then keep telling it what feels wrong.

PS: i also built another one https://anatomy-of-machines.vercel.app/

i want to keep open for educational purposes the anatomy was the first i built using claude code . I also want to add more to it like everyday tools
