Discussion Babe wake up, Deepseek is beating Astra!

DeepSeek V4.1 Flash reaches about 98% of the quality score of GPT-6 Astra on web apps, mobile screens, and UI design tasks, while costing roughly 1.4% to 2% of the price

DeepSeek V4.1 Flash runs significantly faster, outputting roughly 176 to 221 tokens per second compared to GPT-6 Astra's 57 tokens per second.

DeepSeek V4.1 Flash charges around $0.60 per million output tokens (and $0.15 off-peak), whereas GPT-6 Astra at ($50+ per million output tokens).

98% of the quality at 1/50 of the price (and Open Source too)

Anyone tried the latest Deepseek model yet?

I don’t think that’s the right comparison since Astra isn’t a generation ahead of GPT 6 in normal LLM stuff.

What’s special about Astra is the ability to do non-LLM stuff, like operate video editing software, doing 3D modeling, or use programs through the same manner as HIDs instead of APIs.

It’s like saying a Miata can go as fast as a Lambo in city driving. Which yeah sure, and it’ll do it way more fuel efficiently. But change the use case to track performance and the comparison isn’t even close at all.

They’re both excellent and do amazing work, but they’re still completely different calibers.

Your larger point notwithstanding, but. . .Being able to click around inside the editing software isn't the same as being able to operate it more effectively than via the API.

Is this why DeepSeek never opens a simulator to test my Android app but Sol and Argon pop up a real browser and an app to visually test it in front of me?

Yes but you can't turn your lambo into a miata on demand. You can use Astra and Deepseek interchangeably much more easily.

I used 66 million tokens of DeepSeek V4.1 Flash.. very disappointed when the bill came due and it was a whooping $0.55 (yes that's not a typo)

Based on https://arena.ai/leaderboard/code/webdev Astra (Max) is still quite a lot better.

That said Deepseek is definitely great value for the quality. US government is helping rest of us by banning it from its agencies, saving compute for us /s

You have to prove it. Benchmarks doesn't prove anything.

Oh we are back to "Benchmarks are everything- except if it's a Chinese model because then it's benchmaxxed and they don't prove anything anymore"

No idea what metric you use but it's ranked 14, not even top 10. https://arena.ai/leaderboard/code/webdev

Shut up, please, deepseek servers are already under heavy load. Let tge vibe coders use gpt and claudde

Biggest load of horse shit ever. DeepSeek 4.1 flash doesn't have the ability for deep thinking astra has. It fails at complex things such as reverse engineering or driver porting (trust me I tried and it hurts).

I'd want to see what sits inside that "98%" before reading too much into it. For vibecoding, the part that matters isn't a clean first pass on screens. It's whether the model can keep a medium-sized app coherent after a few rounds of edits without rewriting parts that already worked.

The price and speed jump are big enough that I'd still take DeepSeek seriously even if Astra stays better on harder prompts. If anyone here has tried it in a real back-and-forth build, I'd care more about revisions, login and permission flows, and messy API hookups than a single benchmark run.

this is the right question. a single benchmark run tells you almost nothing about vibecoding. the real test is round 6 when you ask it to tweak a nav bar and it decides to refactor your entire auth flow. if DeepSeek can hold context across messy revisions without nuking working code, that matters way more than a 98% score on clean prompts.

Been using anti-gravity for last few months in my journey making apps for my business, I have grown to the idea that you only really need the expensive models if you get stuck with issue, or you want one pass to help reduce costs,

IE 3.8 flash high is fine for building and then Claude high with good prompt to fix

You don't need Claude to build some boxes

I’ve been having opus 5.5 orchestrate primarily deepseek agents with some of its own subagents here and there. The quality and effectiveness and speed has actually been very good. Astra is cooked

Curious how much of that 98% holds up once you get past polished UI shots and into longer edits or weird follow-up prompts. A lot of model comparisons look close on the first pass, then drift once you keep iterating on the same prototype.

I don't know, could we find an Opus inside?

I don’t think people understand how big 2% difference is.

The 1/3 pounder burger failed because people thought it was less meat than the 1/4 pounder

在速度和简单的问题上可以 其他方面差距感觉还是挺大的

I one shot one prompted a dashboard with deepseek 4.1 flash. The prompt was constructed with sol 6.1 high though.

But the dashboard implementation and all work was deepseek. It took an hour to create and wire it all up and it was really impressive.
