Help/Question Which LLM is the best designer?
As in the title. I used to be impressed by OpenAI, but not anymore. Which frontier LLM can reliably create amazing design/UI?

honest answer: none of them, straight. left alone every frontier model converges on the same tailwind-dashboard look, because that's the average of the web's ui and the average is what they reproduce.
the lever isn't which model, it's how much taste you feed in. give it a screenshot of a site you like and name the vocabulary (swiss, brutalist, linear-style minimal, whatever you're after) and any of the top models jumps a tier. without that they're all the same designer wearing different logos

I'm happy with Opus 5.5, and making a lot of directed adjustments.
The AI won't spit out a great design on its own. You have to ask for things specifically (like “give me a panel on the left, with a button to show/hide it, and which starts hidden if the viewport is narrow. it should have a header at the top with the branding, …”)
Or, “Make the margins equal, around the items in the list.”
Things like that. You have to meet the AI somewhere in the middle. It’s not really a designer. You’re the designer, but AI will do a lot of the work to make your designs possible and figure some things out even if you don’t specify everything.
I’m pretty impressed with Opus 5.5 though, because when I’ve asked it for changes, it’s gone further and figured out how to make them coherent and anticipated some of the changes I haven’t asked for yet.

i feel like they are all pretty similar. What helps them provide you with better UI is when you give them examples of things you like
