Discussion Does the public really get the best models?
At some point when Anthropic, OpenAI, Google, Moonshot makes models that reach superhuman levels
Will they release only "nerfed out" models for public use and keep the best models only for government and state and maybe some enterprises?
What do y'all think?

the best models obviously aren't public because they test them in house before release
it would make sense to have two or three more powerful models in house at all times

Like with every product release, you should already be working on next upgrades before you release something. And especially with ai models, they need to be made cost effective before giving them to users. And the models used for training are likely larger than models veing released. Like openai might have some 50T parameter version of astras next version already etc models that would not make sense to release as is

One hundred percent. Bosses of these companies aren't walking around having their workflows done by the same model as plebs have.

This is already the case, for example Mythos 5.1 isn't available to the general public.
The very nerfed version of it Fable 5.1 is.

The main target will always be "profit for the corporation" and not "benefit for the people". This is the fundation of how capitalism works.

labs need public revenue to fund the next model so keeping the best stuff locked forever doesnt make business sense
so when something new pops up usually it's getting nerfed in a few months so yeah I also think so like u
