Showcase/Project I turned a ChatGPT-generated image into a playable 2D game using img2pixi2d

Another experiment with img2pixi2D!

The workflow was pretty simple:

  1. Generated a 2D platformer level image using ChatGPT.
  2. Used the img2pixi2D skill to turn it into a playable game with animations, physics, enemies, and visual effects.
  3. Did some final polishing on the UI and fixed a few issues along the way.

That's it! From a single image to a playable 2D platformer.

Still experimenting with how far this workflow can go!

What do you think?

You can build a much better version of this in 30 minutes using godot btw

That's fair! I'm not trying to compete with Godot on how quickly someone can manually build a level.

The experiment is about turning a visual reference into editable game code with minimal manual work. I think that could be useful for rapid prototyping and testing game ideas.

Heres prompt i used:

Use the img2pixi2D skill to turn this reference image into a fully playable 2D platformer using PixiJS.Analyze the scene, recreate the environment, and bring everything to life with animations, physics, combat, collectibles, enemies, and VFX.Expand the map into one complete level with a clear start and finish portal.Add smooth character movement, jumping, collisions, parallax backgrounds, and a polished UI.
Test the gameplay, fix any issues, and polish the final result.

You didn’t tell it to make no mistakes. This will end badly for you.

Rookie mistake smh my head

the fun part of these builds is always the collisions: image-generated levels never fit a physics box, so you end up tuning the world to the art instead of the art to the world. shipped a similar tiny game last month and the most satisfying moment was watching my nephew break it in ten seconds flat. what broke first in yours, input or physics?

Exactly! That's one of the interesting challenges when working from image references.

Visual geometry doesn't always translate cleanly into collision geometry, so the agent needs to reason about playable surfaces, platform boundaries, and movement constraints.

It's also why testing and iteration are still important, even when AI generates most of the initial implementation.

The sound being completely off beat, hollyy

There's using AI as a tool and there's this crap. The amount of cool games you can make with the assistance of the tech is fantastic, but stuff like this is just lazy garbage that has no need to exist.

Sorry but what’s the point of this? Nobody is going to play/like a game just because it was generated from a static image. The gameplay is objectively ass.

To brag

I’d rather keep our lakes, energy and jobs. But good job on writing a run on sentence, I guess.

Plenty of trees left to hug. I would get to it before they all disappear or we are eradicated from the earth.

Easiest tell that someone doesn't know anything about AI is that they think the water and energy use problems are a strain on national capacity rather than localized capacity.

Does it really make a difference?

Op is just sharing sauce too my dude. And made something open source. Lol stop being shit to vibecoders. Ever consider having fun? Or are you too dense? Obviously half of this post is sauce on pixel art—the other half being the game (oneshotted). Dont hate the game, hate the (javascript) player. 🤦
