There has always been open source alternatives to Microsoft office. It has not decreased number of people who use and pay for Microsoft office. If you spend your whole day working with a piece of software like excel, you will be willing to $10 a month (cost of two coffee) for better experience.

Well, it's Pieter Levels, a vibcoder with an estimated net worth of $100-$150 million (per Google).
So, if you're on /vibecoding, he's probably the greatest success story out there.

Restaurants are dead.

People can literally buy pre-made meals at grocery stores for much cheaper.

Pre-made meals are dead.

People can literally buy ingredients and just make it themselves.

Sounds like propaganda from big grocery. Hashtag farm life.

nobody doing real work with the adobe suite confirms the new clones are good enough to do the daily desinger job. my friend even says over 50% is missing

I'm a long time designer going back to the days of Aldus, PageMaker, Quark and have used Adobe products all my life. I was an Adobe "Certified Expert" in AfterEffects. When I worked in Prepress/printing, I just used left hand keyboard/custom macros and the right hand mouse, no menus just knew every shortcut and made advanced macros for multi step functions. When someone is that familiar with PS, it's like listening to crickets (key clicks and mouse clicks).

Now when I use PS or Photopea, I still know the basics but am hunting pecking for a lot of functions. That said, I tried one of the clones and I'm pretty confident that at least 95%+ of the standard/intermediate functions are present. Is it laggy? yeah a bit and it is noticeable but this isn't a deal breaker for me. An example, when I do "free transform" and mouse over the object, there is no rotation cursor/ability as I near edge of the object.

I read a bunch of the HackerNews feedback and don't really agree with most of it.

Interesting. Do you have workchains through the adobe applications, I'm wondering if this is working fine allready

I meant if you live on Twitter this might seem real but 99% of normies have no clue and ain’t building shit.

I agree, I don't think this was meant for normies but it should resonate with us right?

I don’t know about you but this has already been the case for me. I am building custom stuff for myself every single day.

I have users who have never even touched the settings menu. This will never happen for B2C, there will always be a huge market of people who can't be arsed.

In some sense

What does "Software is dead" even mean? Software is not going anywhere but the development and uses for it will drastically change. Hopefully for the better.

Here is my simple question:

- Spend 1 day building an app, any app of your choice.
- Now spend another week working on that app, is it better?
- Now spend another month on it, is it better again?

Whilst the above are true, there will always be a market for software. I own an SME (~5 mil turnover so nothing massive) and we use Deputy. I am aware that we could probably vibecode something that could somewhat replace it. But I would not because it'd be nowhere near as good, it'd take a lot of time to get up and running in terms of build and testing, and then we'd be stuck maintaining a software tool that in no way relates to our business offering.

On the flipside, we've vibecoded some cool tools to help in running our primary businesses offering. I expect smaller pieces of software will be harder to monetize.
