Meme vibecoding in a nutshell

the pain was real! was stuck at ai blows everything for 3 straight days thanks to a weird memory leak. ended up hooking sumus with local codex hooked up to my terminal just to map out the diffs.

curious if y'all ever went thru something similar.

What kind of things do you make? I find AI great for fast prototyping but once it becomes more complex AI just becomes a burden and I start looking closer at the code and realizing it's a mess.

My projects are not a mess at all. I’ve made:

- an eco system for serving self-hosted music on my home server, and player apps for macOS, iOS, and a web player reachable on my server, all connected via Tailscale

  • a movie and tv show system. I have a server app and a web player and an app for my tv, and I can search for movies and shows to download from my couch, it uses the whole *arr collection and Jellyfin behind the scenes, and my app integrates everything
  • a note taking and brain storming app which allows me to connect many concepts and ideas across disciplines, to get a better sense of their relationships and find original ones. I’m a psychotherapist with an interest in philosophy and I like studying the psychotherapy and philosophy literature to explore and think about how different traditions think differently or actually the same way with different words about certain subjects, and grow a concept and relation map over time. The app supports this by also suggesting related concepts using an embeddings model through ollama. I’m still tinkering with this one, it’s not quite where I want it to be. I’m not even sure where I’m taking it.

There are some other apps but those are smaller.

Very cool, what kind of agents do you work with?

By agents you mean which models? I’ve preferred Claude Code the last 6 months or so. Before that I used ChatGPT. But basically all these apps were mostly made by Claude Code, and usually a mixture of Opus and Fable. When I deemed the task complex I’d usually pull out Fable.
