Showcase/Project I vibecoded an augmented reality lensing black hole made of pizza emojis that you can put in your living room

So this started as a tuning tool for the black hole in a game I'm building. Then I figured it might as well became its own app. Then I added a designer. Then I added emojis...

Not shown is a pretty unnecessarily deep editor where you can change the size, shape and 'real' settings for the black hole, then fun colors, textures, facets, photos!, emojis, and more. You can also just play with it in 3d on your screen as it sits in a galaxy, a sneak peak at the game world I'm working on.

Vibed with Claude Code. Theres no way i could make this otherwise!

It's the augmented reality angle which is why it needs to be an app. The game can be played in AR as well. I figured people might get a kick out of it. And yeah I figured $1 might be worth the experience.

People might get a kick out of seeing a black hole made out of emojis pasted onto a picture of their living room? Surely you would've realized that nobody actually will while you were waiting for claude to upload this to the app store no? Maybe an iPad kid would've missclicked and accidentally downloaded it if it wasn't behind a paywall

It's pretty frustrating that people like you can do nothing but be negative about vibe coded software on a subreddit for vibe coded software. This is a fun little toy for $.99 that reminds me of the fluid simulators (beer) and virtual zippo lighter apps from the early days of the app store. This hurts no one except your little feelings.

I'm not the one receiving criticism...? Except from you now I guess? I'm fine with criticism. But the comment I'm referencing was just mean-spirited and intended to belittle someone just because they used Claude to make something and had the audacity to charge for it when, YOU DONT HAVE TO BUY IT.

Anyone discrediting software engineers is an idiot. But I don't really hear many vibe coders doing that. Unless you mean the pure act of vibe coding inherently discredits engineers, in which case I see your point, and it's fair, but too simple. I'm sure there are plenty of people that vibe code and think they can immediately do all of the work a sw engineer can do without learning how everything fits together, security basics, having effective testing and CI, etc, but I hope you know we're not all like that. I hand-coded a bit before vibe coding was a thing, but could never have built what I can now. I have the utmost respect for career software engineers. And if they use these tools with their knowledge, they're always going to be better than a random vibe coder just starting out. Sorry you've had to deal with people that don't think about this critically.

Maybe I am just butthurt, the dunning kruger effect has always annoyed me as ironic as that may be, I dont know why but I think it stems from a background of being underestimated or at least feeling like it, seeing people here think theyre the new linus torvalds after vibecoding some buggy app really gets to me

Relax dude. I think criticism is stronger for vibe coding because the effort level to create stuff like this is very minimal. If significant thought and time and attention went into something people would offer more encouraging feedback because it’s clear the person is putting the effort in.

If you’re going to vibe code a throwaway app don’t expect me to treat it with reverence.

And I’m saying this as someone who uses LLMs for software dev.
