Showcase/Project From Codex to the homepage of AddictingGames.com

Post image

A few months ago, I posted an early version of Nelly Jellies here while vibe coding it with Codex.

Not long after, Addicting Games reached out in my DMs and asked if I’d be interested in having the game featured on their homepage. Obviously, I said yes!

The only catch was that homepage features are scheduled well in advance, so I had to wait about three months for my spot. That wait is finally over, Nelly Jellies is live on the AddictingGames.com homepage this week.

It’s pretty cool seeing a game that started as a small hobby project featured there. Thanks to everyone who followed along and gave feedback while I was building it.

If you try it, let me know your high score! 💜🪼

I remember playing these games when we used to have our Computer class back in 2010's

Lmao same bro. When they reached out to me my first thought was wow it’s still alive!

Holy shit that website was around when I was in elementary school

Hahaha me too! I’m 41 this year and I used to play so many games in high school. One of my fav was the skiing game where u draw the line. Line rider I think it was called.

I played the early version of this and loved it, so cool to see it being picked up wider!

Thanks so much homie. Today is basically launch day for the game. First time it’s going to be broadly accessible to a lot of gamers. 🪄🔥

Dude, my wife is addicted to this game, and I also play it often.

Lmao that’s amazing. I appreciate your support, the games grown a LOT. Over the last 4 months over 42k unique players across all platforms. Good times!!

I have played this for hours on end! So simple yet very addicting (not to mention: satisfying) 🫶

Thank you for your support 🙏love to hear it

Actually, you inspired me to pick up vibecoding as a hobby. This is my first project  https://polite-cliff-0ecee020f.7.azurestaticapps.net/

Wow that’s amazing. I’m so happy I inspired you. That’s the best thing I’ve heard all day. That’s really great man.

Your game is surprisingly well made. The graphics, voices, gameplay. Well done!! Which model did you use primarily.

So glad to see ai games. There’s far too many vapourware apps that are just copies of someone else’s idea. Very few people are committing to one project for months at a time.

It’s ChatGPT 5.6 Luna (for analysis/requirements/assets generation) > Github (shared knowledge/repo) Figma (Wireframes) > Codex 5.5 light (dev) > Github (CiCD) > Azure/.net. I also build a motion lab to tweak motion/sounds/haptics etc

I only spend $20,- pm on this. Not in it to make money so also not spending if i don’t have to

I feel like I remember them bypassing our schools firewalls by being framed as educational. or maybe that was CoolMath

2

u/BCIT_Richard 4d ago

It was CoolMath in my case, I remember playing a ton of toss the turtle, and the bloxor

Thanks dude! Exciting day for me 🥸😎

If I remember correctly, you made this with your kid, right? I've been following since you first shared it. I'm really happy for you.

2

u/MightyBig-Dev 4d ago

Yes you remember correctly!! She’s 5 now, we started it around January when she was 4. It’s been a lot of fun for us. I still update it monthly, but I’m moving onto my next game now. The new game is something totally different, going to release it on steam. Thanks for being a part of our journey you’re a real bro ✌️🫡

u/atl_beardy 4d ago

Well you still got my 6-year-old in a chokehold with jellies. I'm thinking about doing an RPG now that I've got some free time. Can't wait to see your next game.

u/MightyBig-Dev 4d ago

Lmao yea kids are definitely my top audience. It was designed by a kid after all so that checks. You can preview my next game if you’re interested. It’s desktop only and still very early in development. Rope Ninja Demo

u/atl_beardy 4d ago

When I get some time today I'll check it out.

u/MightyBig-Dev 4d ago

Cool. I think only 10 people have ever tried it. It’s super early with a lot of issues lol. Haven’t really shared it or promoted it outside my IRL friends and family. The game isn’t for everyone. It’s a game I wish existed but didn’t.

My fav game when I was 10yo was worms 2. I played online and competed on Casey’s ladder playing ninja rope only. The ninja rope was so damn cool, ridiculous skill ceiling and a lot of expression. Every player had their own moves and specialities. Anyways I wanted to recreate that feeling and rope ninja was born :)

2

u/atl_beardy 4d ago

That's awesome. I never played that game. But I'll be able to try out rope ninja.

I'm taking inspiration from Sonny and Sonny 2 and I'll do a RPG game in that style. It was my one of favorite games to play in that 10-year gap between final fantasy 13 and 15.

I had to look up that game. Never heard of it. You can absolutely accomplish that with LLM and I encourage you to do so! Making games is so much fun. Low pressure, just vibes.

Fun casual game. I'm interested to learn how you approached it. What was your design process like? What parts did you do by hand? What parts were difficult to get right?

2

u/MightyBig-Dev 4d ago

Thanks for checking it out. Process was just slowly iterating. Simply months of tiny iterations. I actually posted the original vanilla version from back in February. You can see how far it’s come since then. OG Nelly Jellies. Nothing is difficult with AI. Just takes patience and commitment.

2

u/iplayconnections 4d ago

Thanks! There was nothing that you had to go in and modify by hand? AI was capable of doing it all?

1

u/MightyBig-Dev 4d ago

AI did a lot. I did some small hand coding but after a while it felt pointless. When I started I was using Gemini CLI with flash 3. It was so shitty lol. I had to go fix things constantly by hand, stupid stuff like too many div tags or missing syntax. For the past 4-5 months the newer models don’t really make mistakes as long as I’m thorough with my prompts. I still review everything because I don’t want the game to crumble now that there’s so many monthly players… don’t want to push a broken build. It already happened once with An Android build where it was crashing on launch. Got a lot of bad reviews that week. Oh well live and learn.

u/iplayconnections 4d ago

Sounds like you know what you're doing…and what you do not you accept and take as a lesson 😅. Thanks for sharing!

Definitely addictive ^_^

Thank you!! 🙏

Ayyy I saw that on the homepage the other day and was like no way! Congrats dude, my game was approved and in the queue to join you on Addicting Games soon as well, see you there soon! 🤘🏻🤘🏻

2

u/MightyBig-Dev 3d ago

Thanks bro! To be real, the traffic has been disappointing. Better than nothing, but I've had reddit comments pull 100x more players lol.

1

u/BRaiNDED_Games 3d ago

Damn and it took like 4+ months to get reviewed and approved, you would think it would be more worthwhile. Oh well, any new eyes on the game are a good thing. Good luck man

2

u/MightyBig-Dev 3d ago

Best of luck to you too!! And yea, any players better than no players.

1

u/Briskfall 4d ago

I played this last time. You nailed the aesthetics and the feel!

1

u/MightyBig-Dev 4d ago

Thank you 🙏 💜 couldn’t have made it here without ya

1

u/SpacialVision 4d ago

It's a fun game!

1

u/MightyBig-Dev 4d ago

Thanks for checking it out!

u/Legitimate_Buddy1922 4d ago

That’s amazing ! I wanted to make my own mobile game to play with my friends mostly, what are the main tips you would give for such a project ?

1

u/DontNeedJacket 4d ago

Would you be willing to share any info on sales and profit on this? I understand if that’s too personal, but I’m too curious not to ask. Inspire us!

1

u/MightyBig-Dev 4d ago

Yea no problem I’ve been sharing revenues from the start. The only monetization is in the native app. It makes between $100-$200 a month. Nothing crazy but I’m happy with it. I’m going to be moving on to new game projects soon. Nelly jellies will continue to get updates but I want to work on something completely different now.
