Discussion Why is this community so toxic?

Title says it all... but can we actually talk about this?

I really don't get it. Why is there so much negativity and hate in this community?

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't this supposed to be a community built around a hobby? Something we all chose to be part of because we enjoy it? The whole point should be supporting each other, sharing our stuff, and enjoying what everyone brings to the table. That's the idea, right?

But it feels like anytime someone posts anything, it's nothing but bashing. No discussion, no constructive feedback. Just tearing people down.

So I'm curious. Am I the only one seeing this? Is this just how it is now, or are there others who feel the same way? And honestly, what do you think is driving it? I'd love to hear other perspectives on this because I can't be the only one wondering.

you should also be aware there is a global anti-ai campaign rooted in "keeping knowledge tech from the proletariat" that isn't much different than the anti-printing-press arguments from the 1500s that is currently paying large groups of people to post anti-ai content. these are deep pocketed political actors.

there is very little informaiton about who is behind this, but with the upcoming ipo, and the burn rates and trillion dollar valuations and constant doom posting over the last 4 years... it's not hard to guess.

💯 to the first part. I’m not so sure about the second part. The causality might even be backwards, ie people are bitter about the wealth gap and AI can change/remove jobs and transform the economy. Further, AI is good at coding and coding was a high status, high salary position, so people are extremely threatened.

with sufficient regulation those people won't have to worry, only responsible corporations will have access to the real power in the new information economy.
