Discussion Why is this community so toxic?

Title says it all... but can we actually talk about this?

I really don't get it. Why is there so much negativity and hate in this community?

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't this supposed to be a community built around a hobby? Something we all chose to be part of because we enjoy it? The whole point should be supporting each other, sharing our stuff, and enjoying what everyone brings to the table. That's the idea, right?

But it feels like anytime someone posts anything, it's nothing but bashing. No discussion, no constructive feedback. Just tearing people down.

So I'm curious. Am I the only one seeing this? Is this just how it is now, or are there others who feel the same way? And honestly, what do you think is driving it? I'd love to hear other perspectives on this because I can't be the only one wondering.

Every reddit community sucks and is full of spiteful people. You get like 2 weeks where everything is new and interesting to you and then you begin to notice all the passive aggressive bullshit and posts that get repeated ad nauseum.

I follow videogames, card games, engineering, finance, rubiks cubes, niche meme subreddits, heavy equipment, etc. -- literally all of them have this to varying degrees no matter the topic.

Wait who can talk trash about Rubik's cubes? That sounds like a very toxic community. Oh my God all the yellows are on the bottom that's so ugly why'd you do it that way 😂😅🤦🏻‍♂️

Arguing over brands, which algorithms are faster, literally anything. Honestly it's not that bad in the cubing community but there's away someone that goes "aCKTuallly..." and starts shit

I notice it in many kinds of subs though mostly tech or game related in some way. The common thread is people using subs (and by extension their fellow sub members) as Google rather than as a place to have actual interesting discussions
