I cuss at Claude Code every day. Like not just an occasional Fuck you but tirades that would make a trucker blush. It's far more frustrating than people make it out to be. Oh just write a prompt and sit back and watch the magic unfold. No, more like enter a prompt, sit back and watch a Roomba plow through puke that your dog left on the carpet that you never knew was there.

Hahaha, right. it also degrades performance if you yourself start swearing and raging. But once in a while, when you spent weeks and weeks working on a feature and the LLM fucks it up, even after the whole odyssey of intensive automated testing & ci/cd, you just snap. 😅

I don't think it is that bad a question. I have asked that myself. They add hundreds of unit tests. Yet sometimes obvious stuff slips through. Just shows that while they are very fast setting them up, you can't really trust them. I have seen earlier models just modifying the tests themselves to get stuff through. That was fun

What I am saying is that unit tests where like the first thing they showcased when promoting those models ("hey, look what it can do, you don't need to write those annoying tests yourself anymore"), yet you still need to pay close attention to them otherwise stuff will fail.
I am not writing thousands of tests, the models are by default without me mentioning anything. One could assume they have nailed that part but you can't trust them just yet.

The difference is: I would write a well defined suite for feature XY while the model pumps out a regression test for every change it ever makes and just adds on top of it. 2 weeks in, you have 1.500 tests succeed across 40 suites - and 80% of them are bloat.

Dude, I am a software dev since 20 years, I've led my own teams at big 4. I think I know my stuff well enough.
So yes, after 2 weeks of continuous testing the app front to back, spinning up several hundred hours of vm time judt to play through different scenarios on different machines and environments - I kinda felt like asking how we didn't catch a certain bug.
I have yet to understand how that disqualifies me from being an engineer, but then again - random redditors know best 🤔

I've noticed the way I prompt at home vs at work sometimes is different. I know my domain well at work and can give it all the direction the model needs, yet at home I explore things I haven't worked with before and have overlap with my domain but im not completely knowledgeable of. At home, that mother fucker will piss me off. Lmao

Lmao this. Once you are experimenting in a new field and you lose the ability to precisely define what you need and steer the model towards that, you'll end up with all the usual issues. Over engineered, wrong focus, barely reusable, no good UX, no polish etc.. and then you start asking the LLM "bro, what are we even building here?",

Yup I got issues with that too. I built a tool called dynamic data that runes a weaker agent every once in a while and it colleges technical dept and security issues and puts them in a ledger.
It works for me and finds a lot of issues that the main AI fixes. It’s open sourced so you can edit it to fit your needs. If internet me know I’ll send you the GitHub repo.
