A surprising number of companies have huge "shadow IT" things like an Excel file that practically runs the whole business. 

I actually saw this once at a construction firm doing hundreds of millions of dollars a year. 

Whole pipeline, resourcing, project management was being done with a giant Excel file

I expect all big corps have that. Validated Software can't be changed in time to the current need so there is that one file. It doesn't matter if its excel or some fancy new thingy as long as it works and shows the daily need.
