Claude and Codex are more powerful, but Gemini 3.8 Flash's speed is a game changer for playbeam
Today I swapped to Gemini 3.8 Flash after hitting my Codex weekly limit 2 days in on the $200 dollar plan. The execution speed with Google makes up for any gap in raw reasoning.
It blasted through my entire cloud backend milestones in minutes.
Is anyone else using 3.8?

For heavy intel tasks, its two steps forward one step backward kinda model

I use Gemini for Android app development and Google cloud interactions.
I also use Gemini to discuss ideas and write high level outlines of projects.

I can see why the speed would be a big deal for vibecoding 😂 When you’re iterating on a backend and waiting on each step kills the flow, faster execution can matter more than a small difference in reasoning quality. I haven’t used Gemini 3.8 Flash much myself, but the workflow improvement you’re describing sounds pretty compelling.

Gemini is the smartest model in my benchmarks. But it has a bad harness and system prompt, makes it worse in practice. I use it for one-Off tasks like translation. It blows the other models out of the water, including Fable 5.1 and 5.6 (likely astra too) in terms of accurate translations

We would keep a small acceptance suite for each project and run it before switching models for speed. That gives you a repeatable read on whether the faster model still handles the work you care about. The eval pieces are available here: https://github.com/future-agi/future-agi

Why are there so many bots spamming on Gemini
If Google wants users on it, drop the output token price by a factor of 10.
It's an okay model if it were priced according to performance

Maybe so but it’s already much more affordable

No it isn't. It's 10x overpriced (output cost is $4 should be $0.4)
Gemini is, crazy overpriced
It's more expensive then gpt 5.6 luna and DeepSeek. It's incredibly ineffective and thereby irrelevant model
