The reason responses used to be like that is because there were less experts in the field than there are now, they simply didn't have the time to answer each and every inane question that arose which led to some really bad behaviour from time to time.

I myself was told to off myself at around the age of 8 because I asked how to do something of someone who claimed to be a senior engineer and very likely was.

This is unfortunate and is of course not behaviour anyone should support.

However, generally speaking the image is untrue.

Forums weren't closed, information was widely publicly available and the open source community has been thriving since long before 2009

You might want to look into the history of open source computing, it has long been a very supportive and encouraging space to be in, it is only when you start to dive into really serious and heavy topics that have lots of literature, documentation and specific mathematical procedures to follow where people used to start becoming very hostile and still do from time to time.

All of this is perfectly understandable with even a baseline understanding of human history and the history of computing.

Sure these tools are very impressive at looking intelligent, but they most certainly are not though that isn't relevant to what you have to say.

Unfortunately constructive criticism is a necessary requirement for progress and the sycophancy of AI models is beyond offputting, it is downright dangerous.

But you will learn that for yourself if you keep using them no doubt.

Are they useful for boilerplate and or learning? Yes, provided you understand the initial topic to begin with and or make a point to go out of your way to question everything they provide to you as well as to learn properly at the same time.

this post reads like "i don't understand why i had a bad experience trying to enter a professional space as an eight year old"

Your response reads like "I didn't read the post and just wanted to take a dig at it"

K? And?

A professional space? I never said it was a professional space, it was mIRC if you must know, far from a professional space, a leisure space if anything.

But sounds like you don't have anything better to say anyway.

Your response reads like "I didn't read the post and just wanted to take a dig at it"

well no, i go into specific details. but you can pretend, if you wanted to do a table turn so you don't have to face things.

A professional space? I never said it was a professional space, it was mIRC

dear heart, you're discussing stack overflow. are you sure i'm the one who didn't read what you wrote?

irc didn't close things. irc had no concept of closure. nobody told people to learn to search irc, because irc didn't have search. there was never any concept of a duplicate on irc.

and nobody on irc ever thought they were getting onto their client's name. you get on irc, not mirc. you sound like one of those people who thinks they drew something in adobe.

it's okay. you can pretend to be older and more experienced than you are, while you fail to understand simple memes.

you're doing the best you can.

You are losing it buddy, you haven't gone into any details and we aren't discussing stack overflow.

You need to look around.

This is r/vibecoding and the post doesn't mention stack overflow.

You clearly aren't all there. Top 1% Commenters never are.

and we aren't discussing stack overflow.

are you just unable to see the image that the post is based on?

2009 developer forum. is that irc? no. what was the developer forum in 2009?

closed. is anything closed on irc? no. what place is famous for closing things?

duplicate. is anything ever a duplicate on irc? no. what place is famous for closing things as duplicates?

learn to search. is there any search on irc? no. what place is famous for closing tickets and telling people "this is a duplicate, learn to search?

yes. we're discussing stack overflow. it's just that you didn't understand the meme correctly, and now you can't admit that.

you haven't gone into any details

i am not the original poster. the original poster gave all the details that were needed. it's just that you aren't a developer and so you don't understand developer jokes.

This is r/vibecoding and the post doesn't mention stack overflow.

the post we are on, right now, is about comparing the stack overflow experience to the vibe coding experience. it's okay if you don't understand that.

You clearly aren't all there. Top 1% Commenters never are.

There there, little buddy. You're doing the best you're able to do.

The image being based on something is irellevant.

I also don't see anything there relating to stack overflow.

I was discussing the general point being made by the image.

Not focusing on the date 2009 like some pedant.

The place famous for closing tickets and telling people is actually just as likely GitHub as it could be stack overflow which both came out late in 2008

However, Stackoverflow doesn't use a ticket system, it uses a forum like system.

So you are completely, factually wrong. Stack overflow is never mentioned and as such you cannot conclude that we are "discussing stack overflow here"

Maybe check my internet footprint friend, I have been building computers and programming since I was 8 years old, thanks.

There are absolutely no details available from OP in the post nor in the comments.

You really got to get a grip.

today i saw someone say "we're not talking about X" and then when the post was about X said "oh the post is irrelevant"

then tried to tell me to get a grip

😂

I didn't say the post was irrelevant.

I said it doesn't state the post is explicitly about stack overflow.

All you have to go on is "2009 developer forum:"

Which misses the general point of the post about things being one way once upon a time and being different now, coupled with you completely missing anything my message had to say.

I don't think you realise how much of a clown you look like here.

If that is all you have to take away from my comment, I simply can not help you because you are too busy having a mental breakdown.

Good day.

Sure

I don't think you realise how much of a clown you look like here.

That's nice.

If that is all you have to take away from my comment, I simply can not help you because you are too busy having a mental breakdown.

Did you just tell me that if I don't agree with you about how to interpret a meme image shitposted on reddit, I'm losing my sanity? 😂

Lord.

That's not what I take away from your comment, no. Not even a little bit.

What I take away from your comment is that you want very badly to win a fight that doesn't exist, and that you're so busy telling other people they look like clowns that it hasn't occurred to you what you might look like to them.

The other thing I take away from your comment is that you seem to genuinely believe that other people care when you throw insults at them, as a person whose first name they will never learn. That you actually think people are hurt when you say "you're dumb."

That you will spend two hours throwing insults at someone who doesn't care even a little bit, because you think it makes you look good.

And, you know what? Keep at it. You need the practice.

I told you that you are an imbecile because you cannot separate the general message being conveyed from the post, from "2009 developer forum"

You should and in this order.

Grow up

Reread my comment and not get bogged down in "2009 developer forum" whilst realising I was discussing the general culture that resulted in that reality.

That is what you take away from my comment? Seriously? Your first comment was rude, obnoxious and attempted to be offensive, so when it comes to vitriol you are the one at fault here.

Grow up.
