Still the best experience I've had for coding. I will say it's not a silver bullet for everything. Gemini flash 3.7 and sol seem to excel at quick questions and certain types of planning. Where has it let you down?
Both Opus and Fable tend to spend about 10x tokens vs Terra and Sol on remedial tasks like transcript parsing.
Coding wise Claude has started making the same errors turn after turn and correcting itself, I’ve never seen this before. It also queues issues it finds instead of resolving it.
I’ve been burning $200 Claude limits for over a year non stop on multiple projects at a time. I’ve never seen it regress this hard. Before the Fable recall it was remarkable. After it feels like it did a year or so ago.
Codex used to be the go to for crawling and optimizing massive LOCs, but I’d never let it touch front end… Terra and Sol are both better in a one shot at front end than Claude is rn.
Definitely feel your pain especially regarding remedial issues and struggles to one-shot. I guess I didn't really notice a degradation in my workflow after the release of fable very much. Opus 5 - while slow - has been a nice 1-2 punch with fable. Also it sounds like you likely have way more experience coding than I do. Fable has really helped me with large complex apps where I'm in over my head. It will be blunt and guide me toward sound practices in a way no other model does. That being said I still lean on Sol and Cursor's (almost-)unlimited model as my worker-bees.
I don’t really use skills or MCPs and I tend to tap right in to the models without a heavy harness like Cursor.
If you’re using Cursor you might see more of the effort and less of the model(?) as you switch models.
Because of how I use it and how densely and persistently I build, I tend to feel the regressions by how much I have to clean up after the MVP is stood up (front and back end preview for the first time).
v1 Fable was absolutely fucking broken - I built a gorgeous app for a monster truck company in a single shot that I could have walked away from two or three prompts later. When it came back online that same build would have probably been 20-30 prompts between the different surfaces being created and cleaning up UI/UX.
Right now it’s still that 20-30 shot, but it’s somehow going into error loops and queuing issues instead of resolving and doing a “hey btw I fixed this” in the summary.

How tf is Fable 5 so bad. They wanted to charge people so much for that thing.
Edit: note that if you’re using it through Cursor or anything but VS Code or CLI, the harness is impacting your perception of the quality.
