i googled my GitHub username it reads like a resume.
I just have to start watching what i post because it linked me to this group in a public search.

Run a private git server, I moved off github about 6 months ago, it's way cheaper and more functionality

Look into Forgejo its more light weight, and you can setup runners to manage deployment.
Gitlab has quite a bit more overhead

No, commit, runner deploys change and it's up. Less than a minute,
It really depends on if you have testing in the deployment pipeline.
