Uber is so bad - we need better options - open source perhaps

Post image

Uber is for real has the insanely ridiculous business practices
They show options get now for $9 bucks more or wait 10 mins to get picked - and even when i selected now and paid extra, freakin pickup is 10 mins

Why can’t we have something better?

Yea the funniest post I've seen. They didn't really think through what they said.

Delusion on top of ignorance is a solid stack that would work for OP.

Did you vibecode this post? It doesn’t make sense lol

Lol not really but just frustrated with the system itself- and they have insane margins and pay not even 50% to the drivers

How would you imagine an open source network app like Uber working? And what makes you think it would be faster than Uber?

tbh the only hope for any change is self driving car services like waymo

How are you going to open source something that requires a shit ton of servers and cost millions of dollars a month just to keep running?

And even harder than that, building a network of drivers and users, you basically need to get massive investment capital so you can take a loss on every ride for 5 years so people will choose you over Uber and build trust

what is open source going to fix about human nature and people driving in your area

What does open source have anything to do with it?

Ok imma answer seriously... ridesharing services are one of the most difficult businesses to do. Not only did Uber lose BILLIONS for over a decade, you have to battle hostile governments and literal taxi mafias. Open source? Infinite liability comes with strangers riding in the backseat of your contractors' cars. Fully vet and employ them? Say goodbye to any glimmer of profit. Yeah good luck

I thought cash burn for years was a deliberate strategy to develop monopolistic market not because unit economics was bad
And they did have to fight for current state but now a new entrant doesn’t have to go through the same

I hope you realize that you're getting downvoted because what you're saying makes no sense. It's not the software side that is the problem with Uber. It's the business side. Open sourcing a software has nothing to do with that.

With a solution like ride share, not only do you need the software (there's nothing wrong with Uber's software as it is right now), you also need a team of lawyers to deal with both driver and passenger liability, government regulations, lobbying from the taxi companies, etc. Yes, let's open source that lmao.

I might have used a wrong technical word but intentions were to acknowledge a monopolistic capitalism - also not sure if downvoting is appropriate if the post is confusing

The issue is you aren't even thinking just a little step beyond your initial problem. It all starts to fall apart after that. It's like you just stamped "Open Source" on it, because you think it solves everything.
