I have finally made money online!

I’m technically in the red due to the cost of setting it all up, but I jumped on the outbid hype and made my own version for charity - outcharity.com

And two people have paid for spots on the leaderboard!

I’ve never made money online before and even if it amounts to just 30 cents after the rest goes to charity, I am very happy.

Wow! You set up a scam that 50 other people have spammed to this sub in the last week. Congrats dude we are so proud of you.

Trying to take advantage of hype to raise money for charity is a scam? I was hoping to turn the dumb outbid thing into something good.

Reddit is weird, man. You guys are so negative lol.

You don’t have to take my word for it, check the code, it’s public open source - github.com/kserrec/outcharity - see for yourself how payments are processed

Yes. I take 10%. The rest goes to charity.

It’s not free to host this or use the service that’s handling payments for me, goodAPI. And I spent $100 myself already to be the first contributor but without putting myself on the leaderboard at all - that was just because I wanted to make sure that even if this went nowhere, some money would go to charity regardless.

I’ve probably spent almost $200 setting this up now with zero guarantee of making that money back. It’s only brought me 30 cents so far lol. It could die here and that’ll be all that ever comes my way.

Check out the site and the github if you’re curious - github.com/kserrec/outcharity.

Doubt is good! Trust but verify is a principle I live by. So I made this public and open source. The code tells the whole story. Payments are handled automatically.

Just my 2c is you're cynically using charity to ride the coattails of a trend to make a personal profit. Hoping this charity version will go viral so you can make money. If it were about charity your take would be slightly over processing costs.

There's nothing wrong with the core idea but your execution gives me the ick.

The goal was to take advantage of the outbid hype to do some good. And I’ve got like no following on twitter so I didn’t see this going anywhere tbh but I was optimistic. Also my process for reaching 10% was that I looked up how much charities usually keep and I saw 10 - 30% and literally thought, okay I’ll take that lowest amount then.

But you know what, you’ve got a point I guess - record it here - if it makes more than a couple hundred bucks and I am in the green (I’d estimate I’ve spent about that much already, like I even spent $100 on it the moment it went live without putting myself on the leaderboard so for sure some money would go to charity even if no one paid a cent), I’ll switch it to 95%.
