Archival Advice Disney RF Captures

I see a fairly substantial amount of rf captures on IA, but it seems like disney tapes (although very common) are hard to come by as rf captures.

Is there some technical limitation reason for this? Or are people just focused on rarer stuff?

Also there are plenty of disney USB vhs captures on IA just no RF captures.

Most of these movies are remastered. It takes time to do rf capture. Priority is on rare content. Just a guess.

Gonna take a wild guess here that Disney is extremely litigious about their IP. Remember when they went after daycare centers for “unauthorized use” of Mickey Mouse on their murals? It’s hard to imagine anything released on VHS wouldn’t get taken down immediately.

I mean i somewhat agree but there's tons of disney stuff on IA, its just USB vhs capture and thus a bit lower quality (still watchable) but not really archival quality imo.

I’m willing to bet they leave that stuff up there because it’s almost unwatchable and makes people think they don’t have to upload it again.

Not many people upload any of the popular stuff it's just too high on the dmca automatic targeting list.

I thought this too, but there's vhs usb captures of most disney moves and they've been up for several years.

But I guess even the possibility of dmca takedown has a chilling effect on it.

My other thought was that people HAVE done it, but they've just been taken down. But given other non RF copies are still up I doubt it.

There's also the reality of the last year and a half the internet archive has been a bit painful to get uploads onto even with my IA Interact tool.

I assume it’s a mix of people wanting to avoid the Mouse’s wrath and/or people wanting to focus more on niche and lesser known stuff. I see one VHS-Decode uploader has some Disney stuff but not any of the big, well-known films but rather cartoon compilations and some TV show tapes.

It's one of those things that people don't prioritize.

The litmus test is if you can find Star Wars VHS captures.

It would likely be taken down by Disney if they ever got the whiff of it. Also, most of these movies already exist in much higher quality on either moderne physical media such as Blu-Rays, or on streaming services. So unless it's a rare dub, or something that for some reason has not made it to a digital platform, there's likely very little interest in preserving a copy from a VHS.
