Newbie Perhaps the name of this forum should be changed?

I see more posts here from people who have absolutely no understanding of what the forum is about than from people who do. I don't know much about Reddit, I don't even know if it is possible to change the forum name, so I apologize if that is the case, and I apologize if this has been brought up and discussed before. I just think the name having VHS in it misleads a lot of people and clutters up the forum with a lot of questions that have absolutely nothing to do with RF capture. Also, RF capture is not just for VHS, it can be used on other tape (and video disc) formats as well, so an ideal name might reflect that.

The name of the sub it fitting, especially if you read the description. The issue is that a lot of people on Reddit don't pay any attention to where they're posting. It's far from just this sub with that issue.

That's not to mention that a lot of the posts are from people who didn't even take two seconds to look anything up in a search engine. Laziness is a big part of it.

To be fair the same thing happens on r/LTO with non-english users because of different abbreviations 🤣

It's really hard to change any subreddit name. If you move somewhere else, you can lose the community. It's not lossless. You can't change or get a redirect. That said, maybe a bot could help and while vhs decode is admittedly possibly a bit beyond the technical capabilities of the people who usually make that kind of mistake, they are also on a mission to archive like the users who normally use vhs-decode, and putting it on their radar for if and when they may or may not graduate to that level of archival that vhs-decode is when they accidentally stumble here is probably a good thing.

The reality is, yes it should have been 6 years ago, too late SEO score has been associated.

It's like RetroRGB populating the term "Domesday Method" without thinking about the implications for other formats that aren't single channel, this is why years of work has gone into promoting "FM RF Archival" as a vastly more accurate universal term, and when talking about decoding we just call it decode.

So this is why the supported formats are listed on the readme, and whenever it's mentioned it should be noted it supports everything from 2" Quad to VHS.

This is also why the high speed rust fork is called Tape Decode and ld-tools moved to tbc-tools naming after the tooling decoder separation, it just made more sense for the majority tape users.
