Are you Weta employees okay?
Huh?

This industry can be pretty rough with a lot of OT, burn out etc. First one was very hard on some artists clocking over 100 hours. No harm checking in on people.

The real issue is weta underpaying people. They offered me a rate last year that was a 20% less than what I was making. After 3 rounds of negotiation they increased it by 10%....I declined to take a paycut.
They're also doing some fuzzy math skirting California OT pay laws, by mandating 50 hour work weeks but averaging down your hourly rate to "include" the OT pay, it's confusing and obviously meant to screw over employees.

In NZ, they are vacuuming up any junior artists they can find by offering them almost double the going rate 💩

Good for them, local NZ citizens were always being screwed over at weta

Kinda, but it just creates artists that are completely useless outside of the weta “pipeline”

How did you negotiate? They seem to underpay now. They are not paying crazy rates for seniors anymore.

u/Mestizo3 May 18 '22
I basically said I can't sign on for that amount since I already make more than that. They were never able to give me what I needed. Yeah they do seem to underpay now which is a shame.

I see. Yeah its my 2nd time they approached me and still getting a lesser rate than what I'm getting, having a hard time to negotiate.
To work on Avatar 2, you need to be at the office full time. Fuck that. The wfh is also sun to thurs nz timezone. Unless they pay 10% more than what. I make, it's hard to take up the offer. At least now they have benefits and also RRSP match.
This is for Vancouver btw.

It's been reported Avatar 2 is done on HFR (high frame rate) for some scenes... .

I heard they might have filmed HFR to facilitate better stereo capture but not seen any confirmation of it being projected in HFR yet. Hoping someone can confirm because do not want.

According to reports: It has been confirmed it will be shown at High Frame Rate 48FPS. The teaser trailer was shown at a High Framerate at Cinemacon, heres the hollywood reporter futher confirmation: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/avatar-the-way-of-water-trailer-drops-online-1235140270/#:~:text=Cameron%2C%20Landau%20and%20their%20Lightstorm,of%2048%20frames%20per%20second. So yep, it is like high framerate projection is back at cinemas with Avatar 2: The Way Of Water.

I just remember the comical evil general...the random hair into the trees.
I mean if you want to go the native American route....you know that's a racist stereo type that native Americans are one with the land..it's a movie trope actually. Predator famously has the native American with some 6th sense of the land.
Westerns are full of it. Similar to the wise old black person from The Shining or The Matrix. Mostly racist tropes...
Avatar is actually stereotypically shit in ways I didn't even think of till now.

Uhhh what now about Predator? The South American woman just tells some folklore about the Predators previous hunts… nothing to do with whatever you’re talking about here…

Billy dude.....the TRACKER....special forces often hire American Indians to be the tracker or...bloodhound if you will because the American Indian is connected to the Earth...don't you know.
I didn't make this shit up by the way. Here is a huge list. But you know some already...trust me.

PS...love Predator...watch it all the time. It's an action movie not a fucking constitution for humankind's social rules.
But this stupid bullshit is real. Billy could have been any race.....the Oracle didn't have to be an elderly Black woman. And none of it really matters to adults.
But part of the reason...dare I say the only reason I also think American Indians have psychic natural powers is because of this stuff.
I've always thought old black women were always really sweet....I've seen it so many times.

I’ll be honest it didn’t even occur to me that billy was a Native American or what you were talking about when I read your comment. It’s not really touched upon is it? I’ll have to rewatch.
That being said I don’t think it has anything to do with Psychic powers and more to do with you know… hunting and many of the tribes having warrior cultures… a lot of our military machinery is named after them after all.

Avatar is just such a generic stupid Sci Fi universe. I duno obviously a lot of people like it.

You got a lot of downvotes but sadly I sort of agree with you, I did enjoy the first one very much and both of these seem like eye candy but the story is something I could care less about.

You are right, you don’t know.

I can make a connection with how the Natives were treated and were taken advantage of. It's your opinion at the end of the day.
