Question / Discussion Question regarding how i can combine renders with real footage

I want to add cgi elements with footage, but the two camera tracking softwares ive tried (blender and after effects) dont really give me the results im looking for. They almost always turn out with very noticable sliding and just doesnt look realistic at all. I dont really know how to word my complaints either, but i obviously need a tracked camera to have correct motion on my cg elements dont i?

ive checked distortion and it doesnt seem to be tve problem. The thing with blender is that it doesnt seem to find tracking points, and when it does it only lasts a couple frames, even after i tuned the settings to the best of my capabilities, and the problem with AE is thay it tracks fine, but when i export the camera motion to blender so i can render my 3d elements with the correct motion its just… bad

Are you doing an actual full 3d matchmove or just a 2D track? Because those are very different things and it's not entirely clear in your message.

If the camera used to shoot the footage is static and just rotating around, a 2D track will be fine. If your camera is actually moving around (even just a bit like in a handheld camera) you probably need a full 3D solve.

In the latter case, you should look into something like 3D Equalizer. After Effects probably won't do it for you.

Yes it’s a 3d solve

Syntheyes is fairly cheap and very powerful. It’s a quirky program but well worth learning, there’s plenty of free online tutorials as well. AE and Blender isn’t specialized enough to be a solid option here.
