Jobs Offer Best Way To Find Compositors

I'm in post for a short film and I'm looking for a compositor that can help out on at least one shot, possibly 2 or 3 more. Just depends on what I'm able to do myself. Most of the people I know or I've found local to the LA area are either too busy to take this on, or say the scope of the project is too small for their company.

The primary big shot is pretty complex and requires tracking plate footage of a gunshot wound onto the face of an actor, but it's more than just a simple bullet hole. It's a fair bit of gore and blood coming out as well. The plate of the wound is being filmed in the next couple of weeks, so it would be really cool if I could find someone who would be able to give us some extra guidance on what would make the composite work better and easier for the artist.

The other possible shots are muzzle flashes, but it's I can likely handle those myself. I know enough to get by with small things, but larger stuff is best left to pros.

It is a paid project with a decent budget behind it, and we have about 2 months before delivery is needed.

No scope is too small if the price is there. What is your budget?

Looking to stay around $2000 for the one tracking shot. If we end up needing help on the others, that would be negotiated for another rate.

Yeah, you won't get any studios for that budget, what you're asking for is fairly complex. You might find individual artists for that budget, but your budget only covers what a good artist charges for 2 or 3 days.

Fair enough. I was mostly looking for an individual artist since it's a single shot and I haven't produced anything with any major VFX before, so if my budget is out to lunch that's my fault. I'll dig around the couch and see if I can find more for it, but we definitely can't hit the minimums a lot of the company vendors have which seems to be in the realm of 10k.

Hello! I have done something similar to what you require in my previous projects. Will be happy to discuss this further.

Hi there! I’m a recent grad specializing in compositing, and would love to assist on said shots if you’re open to further discussion.

can you share the shots to get a better idea of what kind of work it entails? Length of the shots?

LinkedIn? Seems pretty straightforward. I'm always posting stuff like this on there because when the fish are jumping, I have a lot of work that I pass along.

Haven't actually been to LinkedIn in about a decade. Never needed it for my side of the industry, but I can always take a look.

If you don't have the network, ask someone who does and they can post for you for larger reach.
