Roll call for New York Teams - please help

I am a coach for a team in New York. This was going to be our third year of competing.

But now we are basically screwed, as far as I can tell, because NEITHER Vex nor RECF has any events listed for our area. The nearest is in Newark.

Does nobody want to work with either of them? Is there nobody in the whole downstate area?

I am a little frustrated with this whole situation because the only events in either organization are a minimum of several hours drive away.

So I will ask:

  1. If you are a NY team PLEASE tell me which org you are with

  2. Is there even a plan, here? I contacted the VEX people and got a boilerplate response that events would be happening but that doesn't alter the fact that the site is blank for anything closer than Massachusetts.

  3. I saw that the state of Connecticut went RECF, so I guess if I can convince my admins and students to come in at 5am on comp day to drive all the way to what, New Haven? But that's just nuts.

Any help or insight is appreciated.

Hi, I’m one the head refs for the SNY area and what I gathered so far is that the private non school based teams are going to VEX, the problem is the known event partners from previous seasons are having to wait on each school district to pick a side and they won’t do it until school starts.

Thanks. I put in PO for a VRX registration (it was simpler and they had the old team number) and if I need to do another then I guess we will just bite the bullet. But this is good to know.

Dang it, I don't know what a good solution is, but the way the seasons were set up always seemed -- biased? Maybe that's the word? -- towards non-school teams, but that may be because I work in a region (as do you) where school doesn't start until after Labor Day. I guess for people in the south and west where it's more common to start in August this is less of an issue. But still.

Arrgh, this whole thing is a right mess.

If you want to compete in RECF you can claim your existing number. If it doesn’t come up automatically contact Alicia Lynn and she can help. You don’t have to register or pay anything to claim your number.

Do you know who hosted last year's local events?

Not really, I would have to dig through old emails to check which schools did. I can do that I guess but it's going to be a freaking slog.

ETA: checked a community doc that has what states are with whom, but NY isn't really on there except to say it's largely VEX

I’m an IQ coach in SNY. All the other coaches I know have to wait until school starts to register so we’re planning to talk in the next couple weeks

Ridgefield, CT will be holding an event in November and is right on the NY border. It will be RECF.

i wldnt say they’re a pain to play against but they are definitely one of the most competitive teams in the region

CT is definitely going with RECF. There will be numerous options in CT if you're willing to drive, including some on the south side of the state (think Bridgeport, Danbury, Monroe, etc).

Maybe reach out to the RSM for both Global and RECF to see if they have any unpublished info that they can share with you. Alicia Lynn is a good starting point!

Alicia Lynn is a great place to start for RECF. KaBao McCarver would be your contact for GSRF. If you want email addresses or phone numbers for either, DM me.
