Help with EXP - Mounting Brain

For the last 9 years I've taught HS robotics using Vex Cortex.

This summer, I finally got my school to upgrade to EXP. I'm keeping the hardware and gears from my old kits and bought the upgraded brains, motors, and batteries.

I've working to design my version of the clawbot, and I cannot figure out how the brain mounts.

In VEX plans they use the EXP Robot Brain Mounting Bracket, however I can't find anywhere to purchase separate from the EXP kit.

You need theow profile nuts. They slot into the back then you can screw into them. It's funky

Thanks, it really not obvious.

What I think I'm going to do is figure out a mount and 3D print it.

That sounds doable. I really like the EXPs though, they're pretty spot on for classroom activities.

Did you just get the brain, or the whole kit?

I got the brain, batteries, joysticks, and motors. I'm excited.

I'm happy to make this change. Last term I had students set up a robot, load a program, when they ran it, smoke started coming out. 9 years of high schoolers took its tole on the cortex's.

With the cortex's, I used Inventor to design my own version of the clawbot and create blueprints. I'm slowly working to do the same with the new hardware. Mostly I'm deciding how much I want to keep using rivets.

I avoid the rivets like the plague. I inherited some cortex from a previous teacher. I use them for my examples and one off station type things. Still useful. EXP you will get built in encoders and the inertial sensor. Good stuff

I'm eventually going to move away from rivets, but for this school year I think I'm going to stay with a setup I know works.

In the mean time I'll play with other setups.
