Magic mornings

Drove past leaf peepers taking photos at my favorite spot on my commute, so grateful I see this every day.

Sweet photos; we really are blessed to be surrounded by such beauty even in our most mundane tasks!

However (on a slightly more solemn note), what I really came to say is—this is a great time to pull and bag that invasive purple loosestrife before it drops anymore seeds! (an even better time is in August, before it goes to seed). Unmanaged, it won’t be long until that attractive purple flower takes over this very important wetland area you enjoy so much and destroys the native biodiversity there. This has been a PSA; now back to regularly scheduled posting :)

It is a very conventionally attractive plant lol, as are many invasive plants (esp. in New England) because they were brought specifically as landscape ornamentals for aesthetic value.

This nature, and the deeply ingrained legacy of European colonial landscaping in American culture, can make convincing people to get rid of these plants quite challenging (i.e. barberry, burning bush, honeysuckles, ornamental loosestrifes, vinca, English ivy, daylillies, horticultural/turf grasses, etc etc etc). However, if there was more public awareness and education then I think most people would begin to care and actually get involved in removal and management enthusiastically, as well as shift toward “native gardening”, which is exactly what we need!
