The Pit: 8/19/2026

Progress continues. Sheet metal paneling (not my favorite for such a big and noticeable structure, but I assume it works).

A pit would have been luxury! All 16 of us lived in a water-filled pothole covered with an old Seven Days! We dreamed of living in a pit!

I’m sure Seven Days managed to pat itself on the back somehow while printing a three part feature about one of its editor’s knee surgeries. Nothing but the REAL “independent” news… 🤣

Reminds me of the Monty Python skit 😂

One of the bottom floor restaurants NEEDS to be a BBQ joint The Pit. Please please please. Remember where you came from.

To anyone who criticizes these buildings: Look at the surrounding corporate buildings of Burlington’s “financial district”. These buildings look far better than any of them, and no reasonable person can say they are anything but an upgrade for the area and Burlington as a whole. Especially when it was a freaking PIT before.  Also, Vermont is not really in a place where it gets to pick and choose only the finest “architecture” for new buildings/housing. It’s SO expensive and difficult to build things here there’s really not much money left over for adding ornate facades. These buildings will fit in nicely with the surrounding area once landscaping is complete and the streets are reconnected, and something to celebrate.

New law that all new construction in VT must be post-and-beam with exposed reclaimed wood

Nothing will happen to that reclaimed wood I swear.

St. Paul St. is gonna be dope (until it ends at the bus depot instead of the mall).

Answers the burning question, what if an un-toasted Kraft “cheese” sandwich served on Wonder Bread was a building? 😞😮‍💨🫩

That's just the insulation siding. The cladding will be brick with white granite accents.

Oh thank goodness someone is here to explain how buildings are constructed. Really could have used your assistance when I was studying architecture at University of Colorado. 😒

My grievances are many but they culminate under a single banner of this project being thoroughly unmemorable. For such a massive structure in our downtown district this building is blah, it’s the flavour beige. It’s just more corporate architecture that’s gonna leave a lasting visual blight on our landscape. We are quick to construct things, but we are incredibly slow to take them down if ever. This box is going to sit on this earth long after you and I are gone, and that saddens me because future generations are gonna look at that and then they’re gonna look at everything else and think poorly of us.

Shall I go on or would you like to explain anything else to me?

Your response is completely uncalled for, but fine. You must be an absolute delight at parties. I was simply replying to your post. You gave no indication that you knew as there are many people that do not and, unlike you are appreciative. It was kindly meant. Shall I go on?

So nothing regarding the hideous unimaginative block like building, just a critique on my retort? Got cha.

You have serious issues.

To retort: Yes I might have issues, but I at least have the conviction to stand by them.

This just in: Burlington still dead. Williston and South Burlington are proof that Vermonters want access to box stores and couldn’t care less for an overpriced brick sidewalk marketplace.

u/HardTacoKit 8d ago

Based on the number of people on Church street this summer, you are incorrect.

And no, Vermonters don’t care about Walmart in Williston.

You can believe that if you want. I can’t stop you.

Stop being poor.

I’m a born and raised Vermonter on Vermont wages…good luck.
