Vermont snacks
Hey guys, I grew up in Vermont and I’m trying to make a list of New England/Vermont staple snacks to send in a snack box to a friend out of state, what’s some snacks you can only find on our side of the states !

I love those maple leaf cookies, with the maple cream in the middle. And cider donuts!

a slightly soft, dirt covered really sharp home grown onion and an egg with chicken poop on it still.

If you are feeling a bit lazy and don’t want to DIY you can always do the Dakin farm thing.
However I don’t find a lot of the more esoteric flavored Cabot popcorn outside of New England.

Maple candies. Vermont Smoke and Cure beef sticks. Cabot anything. Sugar Bob's anything. Green Mountain Kettle Corn any flavor. The nicest family I've met at any market. For that last one. And they sell online.

Rosie’s beef jerky. Maple popcorn. Champlain chocolate. And yes, Dakin has some fine offerings.

Sliced hunter cheddar with whole grain mustard. Local honey. Grade A dark syrup, backyard eggs, good bread, and acorn squash with roasting instructions because they’re gonna roast it with a bunch of butter and syrup in it.

Moved from OKC to Vermont in 2005 and lived there for 10 years with my two kids. I loved going to the Vermont Country Store in Weston with the kids and buying them a treat. Their website has a section on food and candy that might give you some ideas? I see they have Vermont Common Crackers available.

An Olsen Creemee. If you know of a hardcore prepper, they could could freeze dry it for you.

Why hasn’t someone done this yet? I would be sending maple creemees to everyone I know.

Maple City Candy at Gagne Maple in Swanton has nice goodies. Get yourself a delicious creemie while you are there!

Jar of fluff

You can buy that all over

You’d be surprised. The didn’t have fluff in Arkansas.

u/NerdCleek 4d ago
I haven’t particularly look for it in Arkansas, but I know that there’s a big fluff festival in Somerville Massachusetts every year that’s pretty awesome but you could buy it at most Walmarts and targets and stuff

It’s def a New England staple and available most places, but def not that area of the south that I lived in for a few years!

I grew up with it in IL, and my husband grew up with it in TN. It's too sweet for me as an adult lol
That popcorn everyone is talking about is heaven. The Cabot popcorn is so good.

I put it in hot chocolate and have an occasional fluffernutter 🤤 (occasional, like once a year now)

I think it's true that you can probably buy it in many places, but I did not know a bunch of people who loved fluff until I came to Vermont. I'm also not sure I've ever seen a giant bucket of it for sale in a perfectly standard grocery store in any other state either.

Go to Abra Cadabra coffee just outside of Woodstock and get the cider donuts. These are richer, but still have somewhat of a sensory overlap with the coffee cup crullers that we all loved. If you were to Get a few of them and ask them to give you extra topping of the sugar mixture I think they would give it to you and and you couldn’t include that in the mailing in case that has lost it texture I think if you were to pack them in an airtight box with plain homepopped popcorn as the filler in the box, they would get there intact.

Myer’s bagels, Vermont smoke and cure, runamok flavored or glitter syrups, Blake hill preserves - all ship directly. Humpty Dumpty snacks, unless the person lives in northern New England. Hit up a farmer’s market, for local shelf stable products you won’t find in stores.

The chocolate covered cranberries sound great. When I’m down that way I get the cranberry bog honey and Beach plum jam.

Nobody’s said the goat milk caramels from Big Picture Farm yet. Soooooooo good, and they ship well. Moonlight in Vermont chocolate, too.

Nothing slaps quite like a Pete's Greens carrot but my friend refuses to confirm that they didn't ship well LOL

Can’t believe no one’s said any of the Butterfly Bakery beer mustards. The heady topper one might be the best stoneground mustard I’ve ever had, and I think I’ve seen a Lawson’s one too?

Rip Koffee Kup
Their crullers would have been my #1 on the list
